Fixed/SS are still everywhere in chicago. No hills, little maintenance, makes sense.
Oh yeah, and it's still cool.

At UC Davis, I can't go to class without seeing at least 6-10 fixed gears either on the way or parked next to my lecture hall.

everywhere, yes.
but the tide is definitely turning.

you'll see fancy-pants road bikes or vintage everywhere in about 2 years
when people catch on (or jump onto the bandwagon).

Not just road bikes, Cyclocross bikes. I called it here first.

Starting to see random fg's around Melbourne this season. LOTS more bikes about overall this year though.
