Anyone know chainring size of a Trek Soho S?

I just bought a used Trek Soho S for commuting and I love it, but its geared a little low (17-44) for my entirely flat area. I'd like more top speed, so I want to change out the chain ring, but I have no idea which new one to get. I'm thinking 50t, but I don't know what size. Help please.

Unless you find a good deal on a used chainring it may be cheaper to replace the cog. If you drop down to a 14T cog you'll notice a big difference. If you want to go with a larger ring you can try 50 or even 52 but keep in mind if it's windy you'll have to work much harder. I run 52/17 on one of my bikes and it hauls a** but on a windy day it's a hell of a workout.
I don't know the bcd of the ring on your bike but it may be stamped on there.

Would this work?

Is it easy to change these? Do I need a chain whip?

I actually really like the ratio on my soho.

Take it to your LBS and they should be able to measure it. You need a special lockring remover for the cog. I didn't know this and I stripped my lockring something good using a regular two-notch lockring remover.
