Leader replica or same distribution?

Came across this auction and it seems surprisingly similar to Leader frames. Are they from the same builder but just slapped with a different name and paint? This company uses as much logos also

louis garneau is actually one of the name brands that leader preys on by going to the same factory and getting them to make knockoffs.

B:H Pusher 04-11-09 04:27 PM

leader is to garneau; as keds is to vans.

on a side note did you know vanity fair owns vans and Oprah owns vanity fair?

cc700 04-11-09 04:48 PM

wait, this is a vans thread?

peabodypride 04-11-09 04:49 PM

should be an adidas thread!

Vans are still one of the best skate shoes!

I suspected that these frames are made by the same people, just distributed to different companies

Just to clarify I am a online dealer for Leader bike on eBay. I started selleing leader bike products since 2000. I am extreemely familiar with the company. If anyone has any questions for them please contact them at 619 425 6452.

Leader created the 735TR back in 2003. Before the L.G. started producing frames. L.G. no longer makes a track frame. Dropout system was used originally on the 2006 735TT time trial frame. Leader does own the mold used. head tube is a stadard design offered by some factories and not a sole company. Unfortunatly replicas or similar products tend to pop up here and there. The aero design came from the early 715R from 2001. Leader designs 100% of its products. Leader does not use the same factory as L.G. You can always make speculations but first do research and get your facts. Please view link where you can view some of the frames Leader has been offering in the USA from San Diego since 1999. I am proud to sell Leader products. Big ideas sometimes come from small companies with great minds.

FYI Leader did once part own Two factories. Overseas was Leader Bicycle Co Ltd. based in Taiwan the other in China. Leader Bike USA first opened for business in the USA year 1999, Asia year 1992. Today Leader designs all frames in house in San Diego. Leader then has their partners overseas make tthe frames to Leader Bike specifications.

So it's a rebranded Leader frame or not?

No, as far as I know Leader has no idea who made that frame or where it came from. If you look closer the down tube is not as aero as the 735TR.

Mistawes 04-13-09 09:36 AM

Still nice though, I'm seriously tempted to get a 725tr frame and build up, but this tickles my fancy a bit more! Just not 100% sure if I like that aero headtube!

the aero headtube is only on the 735 i think. 725 does not have it.

iamthenoise 04-13-09 11:11 AM

they may have similarities, but i'd ride this LG over a leader anyday.
(leader if youre listening......)
here's one easy difference:
Leader = janky welds that look like someone stuck gum on your bike.
LG = clean joints, like someone took a minute to consider the bike's finer points.

eh, they may not look great, but i haven't really heard of a leader frame failing at the joints due to weld quality. It seems the welds are purely a cosmetic problem (which you can't complain about too much for the price point)

brendon_ak 04-13-09 12:16 PM

so many idiots complain about welds cause it's the cool thing to do. shizz piss me off

Understanding 04-13-09 02:53 PM

with the money you save, buy a grinder and take care of them yourself.

did you know that adidas owned mavic who made cycling shoes under the adidas brand, but they were since sold to an american cycling company and now make shoes under the mavic label?
true story!

toytech 04-13-09 05:47 PM

For what it is worth, I just recieved my 720 tr and the welds are great. A nice traditional "stack of dimes" tig bead. Anyone who complains about these welds may not be knowledgeable about welding. ymmv.

brendon_ak 04-13-09 07:38 PM

Hey, can you please make a thread of your build? I'm really interested in a 720, and I'd like to see one built. I'm concerned about the bottom bracket clearance.

Pm me so we don't clutter the thread if you don't mind.
