Threaded BMX stem?

Here's a question I haven't seen on here..

I'm looking to switch things up a bit. I've seen a couple bikes on the internets and what not with BMX stems, but I'm pretty sure all of them have been threadless. I've got a chance to pick up a threaded 1" with a front clamp (4bolt) for stupid cheap. Think it'd be worth it?

Any opinions/input on this? I searched and found nothing.

its pretty hard to look at, but if youre putting your bike through the type of beating that would justify a bmx stem, then its a matter of function over fashion.

ive considered them myself, but fortunately i have a threadless setup.

Yeah they're gross as hell looking but eh. When I tear my Pake down again I'm building it with better parts and powdercoating/anodizing anyway so it doesn't really bug me. Plus if I like it, I have a threadless Fit stem to toss on there with the new fork. I think I'll just play with it and see whats up.

I believe most BMX bars are thinner (22.2) than road bars, so it might be a good idea to double check that it will fit before buying. Also, double check the quill thickness(some of these are also 22.2). Other than that, should work well.

You need to find out what the diameter of the post is on the stem as well as the clamp diameter. The older standard for bmx (and some more recent department store bikes) was 21.1, a very strange size. The clamp diameter will probably be 22.2, as indicated above, thus limiting your bar selection.
