check this out. frames start around $630. he does everything from silver soldered to
really ornamental lugged frames. i am not a big fan of the "flying gate" design but
he does regular frames as well.

If I'm correct that wacky frame is sort of a re-pro of an old track frame idea. I don't know what the time frame on the original is but the idea is to move the rear wheel in as much as possible while still giving the rider some sort of normal position, a pre-cursor to the bent seat tube bike. Quite a neat idea even in the frame is incredibly ugly. I dig the fancy lugs though, the forks are incredible.

Ah yes, the solution in search of a problem design theory put into practice.

I usually don't like ornate lugs, but when they're chromed out like that I can't help it...it can get to be a bit much though.

He's a 'design engineer' and that's what he came up with?

Those lugs are like a bad hairband guitarband solo...not into them at all. But I am sure they work for some.

UK is still a great place for bespoke cycle building. Lots of choice and cheaper than most.

Bob Jackson's have probably built more custom frames than Australia has cyclists! I think after 50 plus years, they and their competitors might know a bit about brazing tubing.

TJ Cycles copied the gate design from a defunct Bradford builder from the 50's, Baines. Don't think it was a track design but it dates from the fixed wheel clubman/time trialist era and purported to shorten the wheelbase. Like a number of other distinctive but not always effective frame shapes from this period, the Bates was unmistakeable in photographs: old-school marketing.

I dig the flying gate design. Thinking about picking up a used frame. I figure there probably isn't a real huge advantage to the frame, but probably no real disadvantage either. Might be a tad bit heavier with the extra tubing but I like the different look and fancy lugwork.

As someone who has an overly lugged frame... Those bikes are ****ing nasty.
