What's So Good About Toshi's?

Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I had Christophes and the slipped and slipped until they broke. Then I had Campy single laminated straps, broke quicker than the Christophes. Then ALE single laminateds, they are super sweet and never broke, slipped or anything else and were probably more comfortable than the Toshis I got next. The Toshis, if I still rode with clips/straps, would probably last me 2 years. They do wear if you are the type to tighten them down all the way, which is kind of the point. The teeth on the buckle will wear down the leather.

I've used these single Alfredo Binda laminated straps for over 25 years without problems:

I've had my Toshis for a year and a half, have ridden them hard, and they still look new. They're incredible. If they last any less than 5 years, I'll be floored.

the ale singles that are new production, or are they old? as in, can i go on ebay and order the ale single laminateds there?

I was supposed to get some used toshis on some sylvans that I won on ebay, but the guy hasn't sent them and it's been almost 5 weeks since I paid. ****ing madness. I've sent him messages through ebay asking what's up and he hasn't replied (don't know of any other way to get in contact). I dont want to open a paypal dispute, but srsly

if you are this seller, or know him, can you send me a message? the guy had a red njs bike, i think a nagasawa. blue deepv's with blue sugino 75 cranks. blue sylvans with soma 4gate clips and blue toshis. nitto jaquar stem, anodized red or blue (I can't remember) with nitto risers. also red or blue (i think it was a blue stem and red risers). blue miche supertype post. union jack saddle.

according to ebay (and i think i saw the bike on craigslist) the guy lives in Goleta or Santa Barbara CA.
