I've been commuting for over 15 years, rain or shine on Brooks saddles, I find it impossible that a thick bolt could rust so quickly as to break. I'm calling BS on this one.

there is no possible reason that i would lie about this.
i dont know why some of you are so gladly defending brooks when i even recieved an email from brooks re:the saddle, and its not an uncommon occurance apparently. anyway.i do not care.the things failed.believe it or not. |

As for the other parts, I have no idea what Brooks is doing making those fashion items; I sure hope that they don't neglect their core saddle business. |
well it was rusted at the break, and the threads were worn off completely around the break

FWIW, the Brooks on my bikes ridden in the rain are rust free. |
I bought it brand new, the replacement bolt they sent is holding up perfectly. it wasnt rusted through, but maybe a mm or so down from the surface. ill go and see if i can find the bolt, but im sure i threw it out

i have been riding my brooks b17 for almost a year and i rode all winter, no rust on my bolt

Only FG and Vintage riders choose Brooks. Vintage builders use them if the saddles match the period of the bikes. Not really sure why FG riders do. I haven't figured that out. |
Don't forget us tourers- I love my brooks. I put my most uncomfortable lightweight racing saddles on my FGs.

As for the "defending" of Brooks... Some riders have used Brooks for 30+ years and the dependability and quality has proven itself time and time again. To hear someone say "The bolt rusted and snapped" within a 5 month period just sounds ridiculous. Furthermore, their other products may be under warranty yet you didn't want to pursue it. It's as easy as writing an email and telling them what happened... unless you can't provide proof or purchase or bought it off someone else. Do Brooks products fail? Sure they do. That's why the warranty is there. However, last time I checked Brooks didn't defy science and I'm pretty sure your bolt snapped for another reason that was not rust. |
