165 or 170mm cranks for a 59cm road frame conversion?

I'm building up a 1980 Colnago 59cm road frame to use SS/FG for now. I'm used to using 170mm on my current track frame, but am wondering if I might have pedal strike issues with that length on the Colnago. Any one out there have experience with a similar frame and care to comment?

I think you will be fine with 170s. I am running 167.5s with no strike and my buddy runs 170s on his Merckx conversion. If you are really concerned measure the distance form the bb to the ground on both your Rush and the Colnago. Also do you use clipless pedals? I think you gain a little clearance by using clipless instead of old school pedals with clips and straps.

yeah i ran 170s on my bike for a little while w/ no problems on my Bianchi Strada conversion, but if it gives you extra peace of mind, go w/ 165. Probably best to play it safe on this one...

170s... I ride a 53/54 and prefer 170s on that actually.

I've run 170's on my conversion for many years, without any pedal strike. Don't believe the hype.

Cool, thanks for the replies. I think I am going to go with 170's then, and maybe finally make the switch to clipless pedals from old school track pedals/toe clips if I have issues. I'm used to 170's already and would rather keep my bikes consistent if possible.
