Don't buy a used alum bike its def not worth it

Why is that? Used Titanium is better?

Used is used. Some take care of their stuff and some don't. It doesn't matter what kind of material the bike's made of. There is inherent risk in buying anything used.

Better advice would be to consider the source of the used gear. A 50 year old track racer who used the bike for 3 years on the track was probably more gentle with the bike than a 19 year trickstar who used it for 3 months on the street.

Someone with more money and curiosity than myself needs to buy one of these.

How the bike was taken care of does matter but old used aluminum frames are some times super flexy and if he's gonna use it for the track he's better of getting something that won't have that problem like a titanium frame

I've only seen one titanium track frame ever (that I can recall) and that was here on BF. I have never seen one in person. 95% of the bikes at my local track are aluminum or carbon fiber. 5% are steel. 0% are titanium (that I've noticed). Some racers have the coin to have custom frames made to spec from scratch...none chose titanium.

EDIT: On a personal note, I have a late 90s track aluminum frame that was rigorously raced by 2 very powerful riders before me. One was an Olympian the other a Cat 1/2 road racer that raced track for fun. Those dudes put down lots of power. It's holding up just fine. Actually, it's bone-jarringly stiff. As stiff as my carbon fiber rig.

So, I just had lunch with Autumn and the conversation goes like this:

C: Remember that tall thin guy from the bike polo outside of Lenny's that came to watch the races 2 weeks ago?
A: Yeah.
C: I think he's gonna be racing with us.
A: That's awesome! (big smile)
C: He posted that he bought a new bike.
A: Really? That's cool. What kind? (still smiling)
C: A Cervelo.
A: (smile goes flat) What?! A Cervelo for real?? I want one of those. I was gonna be the one at the track with a Cervelo. What? How? Sh*t.

Hah, thanks for the heads up, man! :) I appreciate it. I am pretty stoked about this ride. It's definitely the "nicest" bike I've ever owned. Generally I don't make large purchases like this ... I like to keep my life simple. But I have a tendency to get a little crazy when it comes to bikes. If you are trying to get in shape for the track (I remember your post from the Track Forum.), we do a ride out of SF coffee 1-2 times a week (depends on weather sometimes). We might be pushing it to 3 starting soon (for the 24 hour race, not that we will place). It's a relatively fast paced ride. I'd say we average 20+ MPH minus stops for beer or water, about 13-18 miles, and we hit a lot (a LOT) of hills (in The Prado, Hill Street, Memorial, etc.). We might start going farther too, but the ride starts at 8 and usually we want to squeeze in time for a late dinner before it gets too too late. Anyhow, the more the merrier!

That sounds like fun. I'm down.

I'll also be at the DLV tomorrow for the No Brakes Keirin races. :D

Yeah, it's gonna be nuts tomorrow. I'll be there. I'm going to race tonight in the Sprints. Should be fun.

I bought one of the Visp Frames off ebay. So I figured I’d post something for those who might be interested in getting a frame. It comes with the frame, fork, and a headset (cane creek), though you do have to install the headset yourself. Plus cut the steerer tube and press the star nut. So you should budget that in if you can’t do it yourself.
