Threaded Iro Angus Alternatives?
So my lbs kind of screwed me on this frame order and Iro won't have the Angus size I want (56) in stock until around June 1st.
So what are some comparable threaded frame options? I don't mind going over the Angus pricing a bit, but otherwise I'll just get a new stem and go for the Mark V I guess. Thanks. |
No, no, nothing?
Maybe I'll just wait until June. |
Soma Rush comes threaded might want to check one of them out.
|
i'm kinda curious myself, cause i'm looking into threaded forks for it's vintage appeal.
so far, apart from the IRO, there's alien, Soma Rush, kilo tt frameset, and if money is no object, an kieren bike. |
I enjoy the better frame quality of the Angus as well which is why I was looking to spend similar or a little more (and not go for something like a kilo)
Maybe I'll look more into the Alien frames. Thanks. |
Aren't Aliens just double butted 4130?
|
that's the one thing that's a little iffy about alien, if they were tange, 631, or something else, i'd put down the money for one.
|
Ah, is that so.
Well, maybe June then. |
Yup.....But it depends on what you are using your bike for.
If you are locking up around town, the thicker cross-section of 4130 will probably do you better to avoid dents than something of thinner cross-section like 631, etc. If you aren't locking up to **** and possibly incurring dents, you might bennifit from the weight savings of the thinner tubed 631, etc. All depends on what you are using the bike for. But in some applications, the 4130 might be a better way to go. |
Threaded headset is a step down from threadless, is it really that important to get a quill stem?
|
The alien is a littler more pricey overall, but with LBS' here being limited in what they carry and can order, the Alien shipping is really cheap and ends up balancing out the costs, sort of ($40 shipped to Canada vs $100+ for an Iro from directly from them.)

Anyway thanks for all the suggestions. |
some people aren't worth convincing.
i would like a threaded fork myself, but that's me. |
So the June 1st restock date on the Angus is actually JULY first.
Sad life. |
don't buy a bike b/c you already have a stem...that's kind of backwards. There is a good easton threadless stem on jenson for like 20 bucks right now, so just get a frame w/ threadless fork. BUT, if you do have your heart set on threaded, get a soma rush.

I wish there was a lbs that had these in stock so I could be sure about sizing. My older frame was a 54cm so I was assuming I would have needed the 56cm Angus, but the measurements of the 53cm Angus to my older 54cm are almost identical, save for the seat tube length and a .5" difference in stand over height. My older frame wasn't small for me or anything, so maybe the 53cm would be fine.
