Which wheels for a single speed?
 

I have my heart set on these wheels http://www.evanscycles.com/products/fulcrum/racing-7-wheelset-ec001944 (yes, it is because of the colour) but am concerned that they may not be single speed compatible. Can anyone shed some light on this rather dark area for me please?

The rear hub isnt SS compatable, its made for a casette, not for a single speed cog, maybe it can be done with the right amount of spacers....maybe, but im not sure, I do know that it wont fit on a track frame, with 120mm spacing between the dropouts though. Perhaps someone who knows about conversions etc can give you more info about working a single speed cog onto them.

Thanks for the reply. I've been continuing my research and have found that this could (i think) be compatible http://www.evanscycles.com/products/wheels-manufacturing/single-speed-conversion-kit-for-shimano-freehub-bodies-16t-ec018751 with the wheels above. Any ideas?

as the previous poster said, they can be converted using a kit like you've discovered. no problem. they will never allow a fixed configuration however.

more significantly (as has also already been pointed out), the rear hub uses the standard 130mm geared road spacing. they will not fit in the typical 120mm track frame rear end. if you're looking to put them on a frame designed for gears, no problem.

I just got a front and rear set from bicyclewheelwarehouse.com for 145 bucks after shipping. The wheels are Mavics CXP22 Threaded to formula hubs. Comes with a cog and lock ring installed on a formula flip flop hub!!!!(Wow!) You can also choose different color spokes, hubs, etc. I have been riding on mine for two weeks and I love them! For the price its great cause the lock ring and cog are included. Shipping on wheels in generally pretty steep but these were only 15 for the pair. :thumb:
