bike work i have to do:

since i started working in a shop, i have no time or desire to work on my own bikes. so i am making a list of things i need to do here, so i'll remember later.

1) clean and lube drivetrains all around.
2) re-adjust seat position on lotus.
3) futz with handlebar position on pursuit.
4) change headset on pursuit.
5) possibly overhaul my road bike hubs...if i get around to it.

i'm sure there's more...can't think now...gotta go eat.

1) cereal
2) bananas
3) milk
4) eggs
5) bread
6) peanut butter

nah, i couldn't have. it takes longer than a minute just to unscrew everything...and i don't have a headset press. :( that's something i'll have to do at work i think. the seat-futzing though...that's something i could be doing just right this minute...but i'm not, because i've been seathandlebarwheelheadsetpedalsderailleursbrakefutzing all day.

Could you please pick me up some juice, grapefruit would be great. Always running out of juice.

I used something similar with 2 sheets of steel (2"x2") as opposed to bushings. The sheet steel works better for Chris King headsets (if you want to do them yourself).

Onetin,

What shop do you work at in Berkeley? I'm thinking of coming in for the next critical mass since the one in Sacramento sucks.

OneTinSloth 06-05-04 11:10 AM

i work at bay area bikes,in west oakland. all of the bikes under "recent additions" on the mainpage are bikes that i've worked on in their warehouse. today is my first day in the retail part, because they're short-handed now.

the berkeley CM is huuuge, but i like to think of it as a solution looking for a problem here in berkeley. most of the drivers are really courteous...i made a thread where i talked about the berkeley CM not too long ago, it doesn't really end well, i think.

Cynikal 06-05-04 11:26 AM

At least people show up to yours. I was the only one to show up last ime in Sac. I agree with the "solution looking for a problem" idea but until there is a group that is pro bike rights and not just against everything it's the best I can get. Do you ride CM? If so I'll let you know when I come.

i agree with onetin. i haven't really had that many run ins with cars here. berkeley is pretty biker friendly so it almost seems weird in a way.

onetin,
just do the ghetto headset press at home. some washers and a long bolt. tighten both ends. WHAM! that's how i pressed the headset on my planet x that is being sold.

OneTinSloth 06-06-04 01:58 AM

stinky!

i ordered my chainring today, it'll be in next tuesday, so i think i'll just ride the bike that needs the headset and chainring and stay after work and do everything at once...i don't have the patience for the ghetto press...

cynikal, i rode CM in Berkeley once, and while, if i was a different type of person, it probably would've been more enjoyable. but, as it stands, i cannot abide the hippie/psuedo-activist lifestyle of most of the berkeley massers...plus, i work til 7 tuesday-saturday now, so even if i wanted to, i couldn't do the berkeley ride...i'm trying to get it together enough to do a weekley road bike ride up grizzly just so i don't get all gross and fat.

BTW, i did all the handlebar and seat futzing last night, and cleaned and lubed my road drivetrain as well...so all that really remains is the hub overhaul and the headset.
