Anyone have experience with Vittoria Zaffiro/pro tires?

I am thinking about picking up a Vittoria Zaffiro tire for the back (700x23). I skid occasionally and I want a tire to last. I hear the everwears have sidewall blow out/cracking problems so they're out. Gatorskins are a bit more expensive. Anyone run this tire? How is it?

https://www.biketiresdirect.com/pvirp...ad_tire/pp.htm

edit: just read they only come in white, no black. that kind of sucks.

How about the regular Vittoria Zaffiro which is like 13 bucks? whats the difference?

I've run the PRO model on the front have not had any problems with flats. I actually have a regular model sitting around my shop and by looking at it I don't think it will hold up as a rear. We'll see though.

I run zaffiros (700x23) on both of my bikes now. They're my favorite tires, but I rarely skid so I can't say how they'd handle that. I've had them on my fixed for over 2 years and 1500 miles and have never had a flat. They seem tough, they roll fast, and they're probably the only 23 tire I'll ever buy from here on out.

Ive been using the regular zaffiro's for about 2 years, Im on my 7th rear tire I think, been thru a bunch. Flat wise they've been good, skidding wise I give em a 6 on a 1-10 scale. They do better in the wet than lots of others I have tried, many of the more durable compounds turn into dangerous slippery tires in the rain. I am going to keep using them. I ran armadillos for awhile, finally gave up on them....too expensive for what you get and they ride like crap. Ive used gatorskins too, they are ok but the sidewalls are too flexible and cut easy. I used panaracer tserv messengers for a few months, seriously over priced and not that durable but they do grip the road well. None of them if you skid much or ride hard are going to last long, just the way it is. For $13 each the zaffiro's are worth it. The pro's I think are folders and have a bit more flat protection. Neither will survive very much glass. Only tires I have ever had that could do that were the armadillos.

I'm currently using them on my bike. I was going to replace them but having had plenty of gouges in the tires from running over sharp objects and never getting a flat, I've gotten a bit superstitious about replacing them. Don't know how many miles I've put in but this is over the course of probably 6 months of total riding at a minimum of 100K per week, usually substantially more than that

i had Zaffiro Pro (white) on the rear since march(around march 1st), casual skidding, use backpedaling force to slow down, first "black patch" last week (may 07)~

(sry i dont know the difference~ their treads look exactly the same on the website)

immediately switched the rear to the front, using the front's "newer" zaffiro, use rear brake more often now~ ill report how long the 2nd tire in the rear lasts~

heard good things about the soma everwears if you're looking for alternatives for skidding~

but beside that, i think the tire itself has protected me from many many punction/road spikes/etc. have not gotten a flat all this time~ so good tires indeed besides the skid factor~

I hear this on the internet as well but I have been running everwears for comin up on a couple years now and it is the only back tire my roomate and I will run. No sidewall blow-out problems or cracking in my experience whatsoever and it is the only tire on the market MADE FOR SKIDDING. If you plan to drag your back tire on the road for anything more than emergencies I would consider the everwear. Only tire that will last almost a year with consistent skidding. So unless your a super picky or experienced cyclist and you cant handle a less-than-high performance (and eventually square-ish) tire, I would not rule it out.

i have a pair of zaffiro pros. they are some good tires, low rolling resistance and high flat protection. one really sunny day, the sun was shining in my direction and i can't see what's on the road. i ran over something and i heard a giant crack. i thought i dropped something so i went back and saw that it was a giant shard of glass. i broke them into smaller pieces. the tire was completely fine; i was impressed and praised them. about 500 miles and still going strong.

You can do that with any tyre. It's really the smaller shards of glass that cause punctures.

Hey Mucky, you should never rotate a rear tire to the front. Be careful with that worn tire.

I'm pretty sure they come in different colours, I have a yellow zaffiro pro on the front of my bike.

really? is it because the front is more vulnerable to spikes and such? and so the worn in the front would just be like having a plastic bag over your tubes? or whats the reason?

I never had the pros but...
I had two flats in one week with the zaffiros, both on the back. I maybe threw like 4 skids on them.
I ride 14mi a day to/from work plus recreationally after work.
I've switched to a Bontrager Race Lite hardcase on the back, and 80-100 miles later no signs of significant wear.
I ride mostly on country-ish roads with lots of crap on the sides though...

Never had any problems with my Zaffiros. No flats, good traction even on wet surfaces. I don't skid or any of that stuff, so I don't know how well they would do for that, but my own experience has been good.

you ride zaffiros if you have not had tires that ride better, youll be in for some disappointment. get the black zaffiros, white is simply twice the price if not more.
