lock bolts instead of lockring~ looks delicious and nonthreadstripping! om nom nom nom nom~

I'm tempted to try this on my next build, I think this design is alot safer than the lockring/threaded design. It's designed to deal with the pressure equally in both directions, and dismounts on a different axis. Much better design than before, but as highlighted, there is a limit to how small of a cog you can go (which ain't too much of a problem for me, with my 52T C/R).

Or you can just use a $15 front disk hub and do the exact same thing for less.

I like this idea, but Tomicog, and hundreds of homebrewers did it better first

Why do we need a new standard? The 6 bolt disk brake works perfectly.

Although I suppose it's more likely to see a disk version of this hub, than a disk/disk flip flop for fixed riders who want a disk brake.

+1

Proprietary designs bug me. I used a bolt on disk cog last winter and it worked great. Doesn't Surly have a fixed/disk hub now?

I'm waiting for a Center Lock cog ;)

I love using my fixed bike in terrible weather (3 inches of fast moving water last week). I'd be nervous about one of the bolts rusting, locking the cog in place.
If not for that, it looks cool.

well lockrings are aluminum right? are the bolts not aluminum as well?

They'd better not be - but they should be stainless or plated so they won't corrode.

And +1 on this being pointless - the ISO 6-bolt hubs work great, so exactly what problem is being solved here? If they want to machine custom hubs, put an ISO 6-bolt pattern on both sides so that I can choose between running 2 ratios in a flip-flop setup, or a cog on one side and brake on the other.

Or a dual-disc setup on the front... Or on the rear of a chainless downhill bike!

I'm curious about this. What cogs would you use? Do people just drill their cogs?

Yes. Carefully. With a drill press.

stryper 01-22-10 06:52 PM

not completely new to make a fixed gear specific hub for bolt on cogs. Fixie inc showed these Marshall hubs at interbike 2010:

iso hub cogs

boone,phil,fixkin,vallie,londonfixie,tomicog,etc make these cogs

TejanoTrackie 01-22-10 07:39 PM

The old Miche splined cog system works pretty well.

Velosolo make iso mount cogs too, http://www.velosolo.co.uk/shopdisc.html

you can also buy replacement axles and custom made spacers from them too
