dvlshc- I meant that as, if you're riding on the road with your tires inflated at their max, you shouldn't be doing so as it's dangerous (depending on your tires max pressure anyway, 120 is probably fine, 140 is probably not). I didn't literally mean that it mattered where you fill your tires with air.

I ride the bike from (but not to) the track at about 140 PSI because I make sure they are inflated to 140 PSI when I get to the track using their equipment. They tend to lose a few PSI between trips. I haven't blown a tire yet, but in general for street riding, I am using my steel rig, which has a max PSI of 120, usually inflated to 110.

140 PSI is pretty high for the streets but I don't have a car so I have no choice but to walk or ride my bike (or get a ride with a friend who has a car). And I live about 10 miles from the velodrome so I'd prefer not to walk.

It's not a matter of blowing a tire so much as losing traction when your tire bounces off every minor pebble in the road. I ride my rear at 110 and my fron at 100 and even if I go as high as 120 I start to feel a bit of bounce off pebbles and such

I've not had a problem with the bounce ... but I also don't ride around in areas where there is a lot of stray debris. Mostly just ragged surfaces.

I don't think 140 is unreasonably high ... several clinchers I've seen with suggested track use have a max PSI of 160 ... now that's high.

The term irony has a specific meaning separate from it's common meaning that is often used in this specific subforum and by people like you. Are you denying this? Do you think most people would understand how ironic can be used to describe a really ****ty moustache or riding around in a tt helmet? hahaha. Get over yourself.

I ride faster up hills with my 94 GI than with my 82 GI. Don't ask me why, but I do. Personally I think it is because the hills here aren't long hills.

I wasn't referring at all to the meaning of "irony", only that you proscribed one for someone of my "ilk". It could be anything; it's just funny that you think you know me so well as to assume how I might apply a word. To answer your question, I am in fact categorically denying it.

You think I have a mustache because I think it is "ironic"? Please. If you really care why I have a mustache (and I don't see why) it's because I think my face looks pretty absurdly boyish without one. And I don't even ride with a helmet at all.

P.S. I am not ignoring you irl. It is you who has ignored me. Which is fine, that is your business. Just saying, that's a pretty extreme example of the pot calling the kettle black, considering I and all my friends have made efforts to be friendly folk at the track (actively asking questions, inviting people on our social rides, inviting people to play polo) and you have done nothing so much as creep around behind my back.

Adriano ... I think you've missed the point altogether ... no one here harbors the delusion that better gear will give the greatest performance gains. That's not just something that applies on the track. That is a rule that applies across cycling, unless perhaps you are comparing regular bikes to recumbents or SS bikes to geared bikes. In all honesty, I am surprised you don't realize it is people like me 99% of the time arguing in favor of steel for daily riding.

I've participated in many online forums over the years, but I have to agree this one is the most legendary for me due to its real-life bleed-over.
