Check out the Panaracer Pasela. They're available in a wire bead, and also have a "Tour Guard" model with an aramid belt in folding or wire bead.

bmw5nkj 05-27-09 02:08 PM

schwalbe luganos also come in gum and 700x23c.

fuzz2050 05-27-09 04:39 PM

+1 on the paselas. Cheap as dirt too

buck65 05-27-09 04:49 PM

I have about 650 miles on my Elirium 2 tires. I'm pretty pleased with them and they were fairly inexpensive when I bought them on sale.

Anybody have experience with the Veloflex Pave or Gommitalia Calypso?

Deshi 05-27-09 06:29 PM

+2 on the Panaracer Pesla Tour Guards.

Cy Trivialities 05-27-09 06:30 PM

im considering rivendell ruffy tuffys too...

beeftech 05-27-09 06:46 PM

The Ruffy Tuffy's will look classier, and are made for Riv by Panaracer IIRC
Other wise I'd recommend Panaracer Pasela TG's

pacificaslim 05-27-09 06:47 PM

Torelli "open tubular" clincher tires come in a gumwall version. Affordable and handmade in Italy.

not for general street riding.
wear very fast / torn sidewalls / zero puncture resistance
but ride quite nice due to the high TPI.

dookie 05-28-09 02:40 PM

paves are one of the most tubular-like clinchers out there (along with the vittoria open corsa)...which is a good thing. light, supple, sticky, fast...but as has been said, soft and without puncture protection belting.

i've standardized on the open corsa cause they're a bit cheaper, but the pave is every bit as good. no gumwall in the OC

oh, that cinelli is ridiculous. could be a stunner if reasonably set up, but pure poser as shown. also, how can you tell they're tubies?

it says it's got a kevlar layer in the pave though.

Still, i'm not expecting it to last forever of course, i just want it cuz it's so pretty for the most part. Lol.

in that case, the pave is probably the cream of the crop for you. porsche : kia :: pave : pasela

trust me - they feel great and handle well, but you'll flat all the time and have to buy new tires in 2 months. and I really hope you're not planning on skidding on paves - they'll last a week. when it comes to tire choice, aesthetics < practicality

just get the foldable pasela tourguards with a kevlar bead.

Cy Trivialities 05-28-09 08:14 PM

you right. even though im not skidding em, they just won't last.

I'm gonna go with Rivendell Ruffy Tuffys.
