CXP33

I would get Open Pros, however.

Mavic. If you held both in your hands you will see that Mavic has slightly better craftsmanship, fit, and finish. That being said, I got Deep Vs. BUT, I got them ONLY because I couldn't find a set of Mavic CXP30s*.

*CXP30s are as deep as Deep Vs but have been discontinued for several years.

As someone who has owned all three (Open Pro, Deep-V & CXP 33) I say get the CXP 33. Open Pros always seemed a little flexy it to me. Deep-Vs build up to a nice stiff wheel but ride quality is a little rough and they are a little heavy. CXP 33s seem like a good middle of the road rim.

They're both on par quality wise. CXP 33, meh. Build quality on the deep v's? Meh.

I'm a big fan of open pro's. Laced to a high flange hub, they're plenty stiff and light as hell.
But out of the two, I'd say the cxp33's.

I'm thinking of getting both.

Mavic Open Pro for my front wheel.

Non-machined Deep V for my back.

Best of both worlds.

These rims are ass. It might not matter to someone riding brakeless, but I wore down the braking surface of an Aerohead on my cross bike in an abnormally small amount of time. Last I checked, installing a new tire and bringing it up to pressure causes the sidewall to buckle out. They're light as a fart for all the wrong reasons.

Why bother with either? Kinlin (Speedcific, IRD, etc.) are better. I recommend the 27 or 30 mm deep versions.

Mavic used to make good rims, back before most of us were born & they started spending more money on marketing. They still ain't bad, maybe the occasional smoother join & they use eyelets if you care, but there's not much of a difference. For something else check Ambrosia, if you can find 'em in the States, or DT Swiss, if you've the bills. Otherwise it's a choice between sugar or glucose...

This is the first negative thing I've heard about aeroheads. I was planning on building the OC version for my cross wheels. Did this happen over one season?

CXP33's to D/A HF hubs. Love them. I would take Mavic rims over Velocity any day.

Velocity is a cheap rim: heavy, no eyelets, and they used to not even come round out of the box. I like the CXP33's slightly more than the Open Pros, although I've found the Open Pros are more common if you're looking for pre-built on eBay or the like. For example, these.

My point was:
1) Eyelets do add weight, and the Deep-Vs are heavy even without eyelets, both as a 30mm deep rim vs. others and compared to the CXP33
2) Without eyelets, Deep-Vs are an inferior rim compared to the CXP33

Please just stop posting.

The reason it doesn't need eyelets is because the rim bed is strong enough to support the nipples. Let's also ignore the fact that cxp33's have a rimd epth of 23,5 instead of 30mm for the deep v's. And THEN you're calling heavy?

Give. me. a. ****ing. break.

They might have been great once upon a time but i've seen countless aerohead builds out of our shop in the past 2 years that have all been crap. And we're not talking about newb wheelbuilders either. If you want a rim that's good and much cheaper hell, alex da22's.

There's nothing wrong with them. For that price, you can get tons of rims that a a bunch cheaper and just as good, or better than the open pros. Albeit, if your consideration is that it has to be a box rim then that's too bad.
