Now that's a beer. You sir, have exquisite taste. Anyone here tried Orval?

other kids wanted to run away and join the circus, I wanted (and still do) to become a Trappist Monk

If these threads get you riled up go over to flickr and check the explore page any day of the week.

better yet ask around and see how many people think they know what bokeh is [but really they have no clue].

That's easy; it's when the background is all fuzzy because you use lowest "F NUMBER"!

Not that there's much competition for that prestigious honor...

People who care about "Bokeh" are consumers who happen to spend their money on camera equipment, not photographers IMO

PedallingATX 06-04-09 08:54 AM

what's bokeh?

Cynikal 06-04-09 09:13 AM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bokeh

Why does anyone ask "what is.....?" anymore. Seriously, this is the internet.

theyre candies.

I asked b/c j-lie made it seem like some sort of complicated thing when he said "but really have no clue." I did see the wiki article, but I thought maybe there was more to it that I was unaware of.

Why does anyone talk about photography on a bike forum?

Cynikal 06-04-09 10:09 AM

b/c we take pictures of our bikes and post them on the internet. Some are better than others, thus discussion about photography.

elTwitcho 06-04-09 12:31 PM

Because if you ride a fixed gear you're probably a hipster and enjoy photography as well as an assortment of other things.

Anyone else want to talk about Wes Anderson movies? My moustache? I was at whole foods yesterday to pick up ingredients for an organic South African meal I'll be preparing tonight. PBR. Animal Collective.

Fixie.

I personally get kind of annoyed w/ all of the photo talk here. Mainly cause it bores the hell outta me, and some people post dozens of photos of the same bike just to show off their photo skills. You don't see nearly as much photo talk in the road forum.

Cynikal 06-04-09 12:52 PM

I'm sure everyone here strives to be just like the road forum. To each their own.

I guess it would be a stupid to ask why you keep clicking on a thread you know is mainly about photos if it annoys you wouldn't it?

Yeah I was honestly only about 70% joking with my comment. If there's more to "bokeh" than the out-of-focus parts of an photograph being blurry, I don't know what it is.

I heard it was 1,000th post.

MIN 06-04-09 12:59 PM

70th post.

PedallingATX 06-04-09 01:15 PM

Twitcho---of course that is a stupid question. i am obviously a masochist that enjoys torturing/annoying himself haha.

The real reason I kept clicking on this thread is b/c of our previous argument. I was just seeing if anyone else had commented on it. I also got an infraction for my comments on this thread, so I just want to see what else has been said.

But the photo thing isn't just in this thread, it's in a lot of threads. I have posted pics of my bikes on BF and I think it's great when people post pics, but I just get kind of annoyed when I see the focus start to drift towards technique rather than the content of photos. That's part of the reason why I made my original contents. When I saw this thread I just kind of rolled my eyes and was like "oh great, another photography thread"

I'm not saying we should strive to be like the roadie thread, but I do think it's peculiar that photography is such a big deal in SSFG as opposed to other threads, where it isn't. Maybe some of those stereotypes are accurate.
