Regarding all of the threads about passing roadies...
It is stupid.
Whenever "fixie" riders try to race me when I am on a geared road ride, I drop them. When I get home, I don't go post about it in the road forum.
Just ride your damn bikes. You obviously aren't enjoying bicycling enough if you feel the need to "beat" someone else who doesn't give a **** about you or the made up race you have created in your mind.

Because some people it's an achievement to beat someone running a bike with a complex set of cogs and levers and so on with a simple machine such as a fixed gear bike. And you swinging by our form to let us know how pointless it is seems a bit strained, and contrived. Dropping those silly fixie rides just is not enough? You need to beat your interwebs chest over here. FAIL!! AYHSMB!!

I have had one or 2 idiots try & pass me on my road bike... spining @ some crazy cadence .
Thats when the cat-n-mouse games start.
I let them lead, them pass on the ( up ) hills, then let them pass back on the downhills , untill I get bored & drop them for good.
It must look like I'm going slow, ( cadence wise ) in my work clothes & steel toed boots pushing the 'ole 53x13 .
Simple "machine" or not, you dont bring a "machine" thats only efficient 33.3% of the terain ... if there is NO headwind.

I understand the OP as there are many forums where "I dropped a roadie" is a common thread.
There are those poseurs out there that are all show and no go but if you want to race any roadie worth his/her salt you better grab some gears... and let them know there is a race happening.
Anyone who rides both will know what I am talking about.
I am fast on my fixed gear... my job and livliehood requires it.
I am faster on my gearie... by far.

Fixie kids are actually trying to race someone somewhere? That's an improvement. All I see is them going super slow in tiny gears attempting to wheelie everywhere or just sitting at a coffee shop next to their bike. Seriously let the drag racers do whatever it is they get their jollies from and enjoy your ride. Internet wise I can't think of any mature adult that is posting about how they blow away geared riders...the kiddies will figure it out soon enough.

But the point is that you didn't beat anyone. You can't arbitrarily make up the rules of a competition in your head, let nobody else know about them and then decide you're the winner. That's stupid, and only bike dorks do that.

i'm not sure that i'm interpreting this correctly, but are some of you people operating under the assumption that you have to ride EITHER a fixed gear or a road bike? be EITHER a roadie or a fixed rider? how about just being a cyclist?
riding a road bike doesn't automatically mean that you're fully decked in lycra, and writing off the op as a lycra-wearing dork is completely ridiculous.

I passed a track bike while it was trying to pass a roadie while pounding a beer on the way to work this morning! Cool huh!
Simple fact is, road bikes are faster than track bikes. Who cares if you rode your bike faster than someone for a second?
