Peddling Issue: Clicking

Hey there! I just recently built up a singlespeed for a commuter bike and I have an issue. I went on a ride after it rained and was nearly dried up. After that ride there was a clicking whenever I applied a lot of torque while peddling. If I lightly peddle then I don't hear it. I cleaned the chain/relubed and I'm still hearing it.

Any ideas of what it could be and what I should check out? This is the first singlespeed I've owned and have no idea where to start. Thanks!

Interesting... never heard of this 'clicking' phenomenon.

A little while ago I had the same issue... it would vary depending on the humidity. Try removing your pedals and greasing the heck out of the threads. If that doesn't do it.. maybe it's your pedal bearings. Perhaps the bottom bracket is too loose. Just methodically troubleshoot through the usual suspects:

it could be a number of things. pedals, chainring bolts, bottom bracket. take everything off, grease it up, re-install properly and make sure everything is tightened

Do you have clipless pedals or straps?

I have straps. I'm going to take the pedals off when I get home from work. If it's something that easy I'm going to :bang: Thanks for the help!

I noticed that on one of my bikes, the metal buckle on my strap was clicking against my cranks. Maybe you're experiencing the same thing? Maybe not.

It's your bottom bracket. Shouldn't be too big of a problem, just clicks. Remove it, check it and reinstall. See if that works.

I had a clicking issue yesterday. I could hear it but not feel it. I pedaled with just the left foot, and then the right foot, narrowed it down to only happening when I pedal with the right foot. Took the pedal off. looked at it, shrugged, and put the pedal back on. Clicking is gone. I didn't regrease it, I just installed them a half week ago and the threads still seemed pretty greased up so I just left it.

That's what it was. It was the damned pedal. After reading this thread while at work I did a dab of lube on the right pedal and it's fine. Uggh. :notamused:

I figured it was the pedal ... my BB has always been relatively quiet on all my bikes. Bad sounds for me usually come from the headset or wheels for me. And I did have a clicking pedal that one time also.
