Fork Frustration
Bought a sweet 80's World Sport frame for a build for a friend in Philly.
Bought a fork and headset at the LBS.
Sand sand sand sand sand sand.
paint paint paint paint paint paint.
wait...
press in headset. fork threads are too short. ARGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG!!!!! can't thread on the lock nut, no room.
new fork? paint again? ugh.
I know its my mistake but you can tell me what an idiot I am anyways, I'm fully aware of this lol.

If you don't have access to a die, your LBS will do this for you cheap. It shouldn't take them long either.

wait... is your fork column too short (no metal fork tube protruding above the top headset race) or too long (threaded section doesn't extend low enough to reach the frame)?
too long is an easy fix at a shop. too short, and you're pretty much out of luck, afaik.

Too short = check the specifications for the Chris King Gripnut. It can deal with a fork that is otherwise too short. There are limits, though, so check the specs and measure first.

it sounds like you are you saying your headtube is too short. well that's not a mistake made twice, lol.
maybe you can get a shorter stack headset (maybe...) otherwise you just need another fork

+1 for the Chris King Gripnut, but this time check your measurements.
If the CK is out of the budget do some googling to find an ultra low stack HS.
OR
Get a fork with a longer steerer tube.

Sorry if i was slightly unclear, the steerer tube is too short, doesn't stick out of the top headset race far enough to get the locknut on. I'll check out that other headset, thanks for the tip.
didn't check the stackup before painting.... stupid mistake. LBS told me it would work so I trusted them. Its my first headset installation ever, still learning.
