Clicking in my drive train?
I have this clicking in my drive train that corresponds with my cadences/front chain ring.
It is bareknuckle frame with a new shimano bottom bracket with only 700miles on it. I re-tightened the cups to makes sure they were not loose Sugino 75 crankset and messenger chain ring. Wiped all grease off the spindles and tightened all chain ring bolts. Shimano clipless pedals and shoes. I tightened all the cleats to make sure that they were not loose. I have run out of ideas. I have also noticed that i will only creak if I am putting force through it. If I unclip and let the cranks just spin as the bike is moving... it does not make the creaking/clinking. any suggestions would help. Thanks. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3609/...cf2b53683e.jpg |
it could be your pedal spindles where they connect with the crank arms...try removing them greasing the threads well and then reinstall
i seem to have some sort of clicking sound coming from my drive as well and it only happens when i put some force down on the right pedal...i may need to check my pedals again, the funny thing is it could be something like the saddle and it just seems it's coming from the crank...noises can be so mysterious |
Good call. I don't remember greasing my pedals when I installed them.

trying to locate the source of the clicking i took my mks pedals apart to check the bearings...cleaned those out well and regreased them but still hear the clicking so i need to check my pedal spindles one more time, i probably didn't clean the threads well enough
how do you like your pedal and shoe set up? i have been riding clips and straps since i started riding fixed but would like to try clipless |
I love them. I have a much easier time getting in and out of clip ins vs cages
|
and the power transfer must be great
i wonder about riding brakeless with clipless pedals, it's safe right? |
your crank bolts are probably loose.
|
jpdesjar- Yeah.. I would say so if you have a new set of cleat and the pedals adjusted tight. I was riding a 8 year old set of cleats and I would pull out of them when I was skidding from time to time.
N8tron- I crank down on the crank arm bolts big time. I forgot to mention that in the first post. I am going to grease the pedal threads and hope that solves the problem. |

Put a bit of phil wood grease on them threads and clicking is gone. Thanks! |
right on
i may need to do this again with my pedals |
I discovered where the clicking sound was coming from. I originally thought it was coming from the pedals so I took those apart and regreased the bearings and adjusted the tension a bit. The clicking was still there so I checked all of my chainring bolts, I greased the threads and tightened them back up using the Sheldon Mehtod and voila! It was so satisfying to discover this, no more clicking is a wonderful thing.
