Never crashed on my fixed gear. I don't think I ride in a way that would subject myself to that, unless a car/another rider hits me or something. I ride fast and I ride frequently... but I also don't ride over my head.

Crashing is a big topic in the motorcycle world, and most crashes are from rider error, like target fixation or not being completely comfortable in a situation causing white-knuckle syndrome. Sometimes, the way bikes are set-up does not allow for the rider to have complete control, i.e. wierd dropped bars, bad fitting, too hard gear ratios, no brakes, etc.

With the minimal danger involved with riding FG bikes (considering nobody's doing backflips out of skateparks), crashing should be a rare occassion. If you're crashing because something runs out in front of you, you have to stop suddenly, or you have to swerve and manuever, I say fight the power and install a brake or get your bike set-up so it's easy to manuever. Losing fashion points is better than crashing, IMO. And, you can still have a sweet looking bike even with safety precautions.

Cue 50 bros with stories about how their crash wouldn't have been prevented by a brake, so the fact that they were riding brakeless with chopped risers in vans without foot retention had nothing to do with it.

Yeah, I know. Crashing sucks for everybody and I truly hate to see anybody crash and get road rash, or worse. I really do believe, though, that you can have a sweet-ass looking bike and still make it safe(er) than the "fixed gear" street look.

But then you can't do teh bar spinz. :mad:

About a year and a half ago when I first bought my beater 10 speed, I was riding and I noticed a slight clicking in the drivechain. Being the idiot I am I looked down for like 10 seconds to see if I could hear where it was coming from, I consequently hit a fire hydrant. I got thrown over my handle bars but since i wasn't going super fast just landed on my feet. Some guy then rode by and gave me the stink eye.

Also more recently on my first ride on the new frame I had bought I was trackstanding at an intersection. While doing this I caught my clip stuck on the front tire because the overlap was much larger than I expected. I went face first into the asphalt and some bus driver told me it was the best thing he'd seen all day.

was talking to my new nahbors about somthing, conversation ended i went to take off he said somthing else i stop real quick to hear him went to go put my cliped in pedal down and went over on the sidewalk, not even moving lol.
