Is this ride a fail?
 

I decided yesterday that I was going to ride up to the crest of the mountain out here, which is like 10,400 ft elevation. I started in downtown Albuquerque, which is about 4900 feet. I made it just shy of 35 miles and 9200 feet before I gave in. I had 7 miles to go to the top, and another 1200 feet of elevation gain. I was riding with 48x17 gearing. Should I think of this as a failure, or an awesome ride? I had an awesome time, but I don't know if I should brag about not making it all the way up. It was pretty intense either way.

The fact that you're trying to pretend you're not bragging about climbing 5000 ft on 74GI is fail, but the ride itself is pretty badass. 35 miles uphill is no joke.

Bet it was fun coming back down.

Well I'm really not trying to brag, I'm trying to find out if I should brag. Once I find that bragging is warranted, I will do it unabashedly. Until then, I won't be pretending to not brag.

This is all just way too confusing for me.

seriously? for mountain riding? 48x17?

That, and a 15 tooth cog, is all I've got.

If my goal was to the top and I didnt make it, I'd consider it a failure. If this climb is anything like riding the mountains around hear then a 48X17 is nuts.
