New Bike!

I'm excited! I've been riding a Trek 950 for a while now, but I've been itching for a road bike. I picked up a 2007 Specialized Langster and so far it's awesome. I haven't been able to ride it yet because I need to pick up some pedals. I might just pick some cheap ones up tomorrow to ride it then get some better ones down the road. Any recommendations? This is a bad phone picture, but thought I'd just post a pic anyways.

It's also got a brand new WTB seat on it. What do you all think?

Looks good. I recommend mks pedals; they are cheap, durable, and come in many different styles to accomodate different types of riding.

ok cool. I'll take a look and see if they have those when I check out the pedals today

How else would you rate a bike, besides sitting it in the house?

Ride it? Heavens no!!!

Langster, ride is good, the bike is light. Compact geometry made me hate it after a while though.

It is a nice bike though, cheap, good components and well built

Who took the stock saddle off? That looks like a mountain bike saddle O.o

sweet bike!

MKS pedals are good. You might have to order them, though. I bought a pedal setup at Performance. Forte pedals w/ Forte straps and clips. They are great and very cheap. I recommend them

hurleyint1386 07-07-09 12:51 PM

haha I'm sorry, I should clarify. When I picked it up, he had pedals on it to try out and it was awesome. I haven't been able to ride it since I brought it home.

Today I went to a local bike shop and bought some standard pedals for it so i can ride it, then in the next couple weeks, I'll pick up the GR9's.

It's raining a little bit here, but once I get out of work, I'm going to go for a ride. I'm still new to Fixed Gear, but I think it'll be fun. I don't plan on switching it to single speed.

Sweet! just found out the cranks were upgraded to Dura-ace 175mm.

toosense 07-12-09 10:46 PM

you may want to be careful with those 175 cranks, pedal strike is never fun.

xxguitarist 07-12-09 11:07 PM

How much extension do you have past the stem? Looks like a solid inch+

hurleyint1386 07-13-09 08:21 AM

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned that I'm still learning the in's and out's of the bike. I'm not sure what you mean by the stem or pedal strike. I think for pedal strike, you mean when you get hit by the pedal if you can't keep up with the speed or something.

Pedal strike is when you lean into a turn and the pedal hits the ground. It's not a problem with a freewheel bike because you can coast through the turn with the inside pedal at 12 o'clock. With a fixed gear, you have to keep pedaling all through the turn.

Longer cranks (and wider pedals) are more susceptible to pedal strike.

I ride 165s and still scrape my toe a lot when riding. It's something to watch out for, especially on 175s.

hurleyint1386 07-13-09 08:32 AM

Oh ok, now I understand. One time, my foot slid across the road while turning, but no other time. It wasn't a harsh hit, though. Very light.

xxguitarist 07-13-09 08:36 AM

The part I was talking about is where the fork & handlebars meet, you have a bit of extra tubing length on the fork steertube, which makes it stick up past the stem (the part that connects them)

hurleyint1386 07-13-09 10:28 AM

Oh ok, when I bought it, the guy told me that it's still stock and that he never cut come of it off. Maybe it's something I'll look into

TejanoTrackie 07-13-09 11:26 AM

Don't cut it off. You may decide to raise the stem after riding for a while. The extra steerer tube above the stem won't hurt anything. Also, some threadless headset caps require a spacer above to stem to fit properly.

hurleyint1386 07-13-09 12:05 PM

Ok, I'll keep it intact.

cc700 07-13-09 12:15 PM

get some cheap wellgo clipless. clipless is infinitely better for a ss.
