how to install Cog & Lockring???

Hi guys,

I just recieved my new wheelset. Velocity Deep Vs with Formula hubs. The hubs are flip flop & I'm not sure which side the cog & lockring goes on. One side has all one size threads & one side has two tiers, or two different size threads.

I ordered a Surly Cog & Lock ring & want to make sure I install them correctly so any help or suggestions would be awesome.

Thanks guys,
-john

Grease threads, screw cog on carefully, tighten with chainwhip or mash up a hill to set it. Then install lockring, which is reverse threaded on the smaller set of threads and tighten with lockring tool.

The other side with "one size" threads is for a freewheel.

Then check cog and lockring before every ride for a week or so.

you could have done 5 minutes of research and got the answer to this...

take it to the shop.

the side with 2 tiers is the on you put the cog on. be sure you use grease. i just use a chainwhip, it's been a worth while purchase.

If you don't know how to do it and don't have somebody to either show you what to do or check to see if you've done it right, take it to a shop.

Take it to a shop.

While it's not challenging, it's definitely not something you want to risk screwing up.

step one: twist.

step two: twist again.

Thanks guys, exactly what I was looking for.

Coolkid, if I wanted to take it to a bike shop, I never would have asked. I did do 5 minutes of resarch & my computer was just lagging. I came here & it worked straight away. Thanks for the coolkid advice.

You guys are great & thanks for the help! I have the grease & the Chain Whip/Lock ring spanner & just waiting for the cog & lr to arrive. -john

If you had said you own a whip and a lockring tool, I wouldnt have even replied. I didnt mean to sound like ass but honestly that was a pretty noob question, what side the cog and lockring go on...
