Haterz on the road forum

http://www.bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=561916

I read the road forum much more than I do the SS/FG anymore. But every now and again one of these threads pops up and it's really annoying.

If it makes you happy, good. It's stupid how people try to justify themselves to others. Just ride your ****ing bike.

jakerock 07-13-09 09:45 PM

I think anger and defensiveness towards people who are VERY SLIGHTLY different than each other is hilarious!

tgscordv6 07-13-09 09:49 PM

I do think it is kind of dumb to ride a fixed gear for the entire tour route. MASH is nothing more than a group of marketers.

I do think it is kind of dumb to make blanket statements about a group of riders.

i hate it when people take something awesome like a bike and turn it into some bull**** status symbol and get a false sense of superiority.

and i'm not hating on roadies, this goes for every cyclist.

Didnt the Tour De France exist before gears did?

G60 07-13-09 10:19 PM

the OP of the linked thread comes across as an obvious troll.

that's what happens.

"AND: "Why do those kids play that darned 'rock n roll' music so loudly?! Why don't you worship my God?! Why can't everyone have the same skin color as I?! "

of course you're going to ruffle some feathers, no matter how good your intentions are when you act like a condescending prick.

What was annoying about it? Did you bother to read the thread? The majority of the responses were positive.

Even so, why the hell are you so pissed off that a group of ROAD riders are questioning why the MASH gang is touring? By touring on a fixed gear bike, at the end of the day, they are touring in a very inefficient (albeit their own) manner. Road cyclists have ever right to point this out. Do not fault them for that.

You do realize that by running crying back to your little niche here on the SSFG board you are doing exactly what you are complaining about them doing, don't you?

:)

c0urt 07-13-09 10:33 PM

a bunch of the guys on the road forum ride fixed gears to, so they agree that the post was in poor taste.

I almost got pissed about it, but then I read what everyone else said.
there are other things to worry about.

philofthefuture 07-13-09 10:45 PM

what the people in that forum don't know is that the guys riding multi gear bikes for stuff like tour de france practice on fixed gears too sometimes.

i'm pretty sure they know that.

skeletor3000 07-13-09 11:50 PM

Still gonna look at dumb****s who go "whooaaa fixed gear!!!!" like they're idiots.

Still gonna look at dumb****s who go "pshhh... fixed gear..." like they're idiots.

Still gonna ride my bike.

the_don 07-14-09 08:03 AM

They seemed more incredulous than hater.

jakerock 07-14-09 08:15 AM

I thought that hating was the exclusive domain of the senior members of this forum. ;)

mugatu 07-14-09 09:20 AM

what was the point of this thread other than to fan the flames, even though there's not much flaming going on to begin with?

redfooj 07-14-09 11:18 AM

i read and hate both forums.

mihlbach 07-14-09 11:42 AM

I didn't notice much hate in that thread. A few don't really seem to get it, but thats their loss. Others were ambivalent and others showed some amount of respect for fixed gears. Who cares really. I ride gears and fixies...both have their place.

Spinning down hills at 200rpms is fun for a bit, but really, its much faster and more comfortable to shift into the 53/12 or 53/11.

wearyourtruth 07-14-09 11:54 AM

nobody else thinks the OP was being sarcastic in his post (the road post, not this one)? it seemed to me like he wanted to see what everyone had to say, then tried to predict what the haters would say, then tried to make it seem like the haters shouldn't hate because we are all on bikes...

...am i missing something?
