Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

I crashed. I apparently don't have the coordination to steer with my left hand while downshifting (with my left hand...shifter on the right) and pedaling uphill whilst carrying a steel road frame over my right shoulder.

But yesterday I broke 190 RPM, and then I cried like a wimp, wishing I had a geared bike for that route.

Cycling, it's even masochistic when you don't have the discipline to suffer properly.

visited my mom at work because I was in the area. This should remind you that you need to go see your mom (she loves you).

The bike lane went straight and the turn right lane for cars crossed the bike lane so that I wound up between the right turn lane and the right lane of a normally four lane (two lanes each way) road.

Got the picture?

As I approached the intersection, a car passed me on my left at high speed and cut in front of me in order to make the right turn, almost brushing me.

He could have much more easily passed me on the right with plenty of distance between us.

I sped up and made the right turn following the car that almost brushed me, and in about 100 feet he got stopped by traffic, which allowed me to pull up next to him, stop, put my foot down, and just look at him.

He eventually made eye contact and shrugged with his palms up.

I nodded and rode on through the traffic that had stopped him.

Gorgeous Seattle Summer weather, beautiful ride. Ended up at the neighborhood bakery, indulged in a danish and espresso, and chatted with locals about my bike advocating the wonder of fixed gear riding. Life is wonderful

I had a coyote run across the road in front of me.

I stopped to pee in the woods and noticed mid-stream I was standing in poison ivy, and was 15 miles from home... oh joy! Fixed gear+itchy legs=no fun.

I picked up a Benotto last week and it came with a Pinarello stem. I thought it looked a bit weird but didn't think I could come across any replacement that would be as nice (the Pinarello stem is a sweet Cinelli model) but today I went into the local bike co-op and, lo and behold, they had a 3TTT stem engraved with "Benotto" that they just got in! And they only wanted $12 for it! I popped it on and it fit perfectly so I rode the bike and here is a photo of it, you can just make out the CN Tower in the background. I suck at the photo thing (and sentence structure too).

That's so awesome. It's not like Benotto was a crazy popular marquee either!

I know, it was very weird, it was sitting on the counter right by the door. I always bring my bike in with me and I looked at my friend who works there and we both looked at my bike (she hadn't even known about it until I brought it in today) and she said "We have a sale!".

The bike was also a weird find. It was on CL with just "can be use for parts" as the title of the ad and no description whatsoever, just a really bad photo. I can't believe the guy thought it was only good for parts...nutty.

had an unidentifiable black bug/dragonfly bump into my ear in the wind and flutter around my face while going downhill. That was fun.

well it wasn't on my ride today but a few weeks ago I was on my way to work, stopped at a red light, and in the car next to me is my high school art teacher. he is such a bad cat, one of the best teachers i've ever had. anyway i said something like "hello" and "great to see you again/how's your summer going" then the light turned green and i continued on my way.

Rode to work on a cool summer morning on a new bike (Cannondale CX9) with new shoes. I know, not anything spectacular but a nice ride.

I have a bike lane all the way to work but people still scream and cuss and honk at me yelling "GET ON THE SIDEWALK"...I usually just block it out and keep on keepin on but the other day some fat ***** was being really ridiculous about it and swerving into me and **** so I hopped on the sidewalk till she was gone and about a mile down the road I saw her pulled over getting a ticket so I smiled and gave her a thumbs up and she flicked me off. Later she came into the pizza place I work at and she saw me in the window making her food and got a real nervous look on her face haha.
I thought that was cool.

I would never mess with someones food over something stupid like that though

wow...I have another one!!!

My roomate and I were just riding through Meryl lynch and we got a security guard to chase us at full speed, were running from him and he cuts me off hitting me with his suv and were screaming and cussing at him while I’m basically under his truck and my roomate tells him to check the damage on his truck and he grabs the keys out of the ignition and throws them in the woods and we split up running away and I get full on high speed chased through the parking lot doing like 25 and we escaped and established a meeting spot and I think he really ****ed up my wrist when he hit me
