why Oury's?
I know it may be a rather daring question and I'm not talking smack on Oury's in any way.
I'm just wondering why...with all the choices for grips out there in the world...do they seem to be the undisputed grip of choice for those running risers? I use these A'me Rounds, because that's what I always used racing BMX back in the day (I'm a man of habit) and they're comfortable to me: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v1...amegrip001.jpg I've never tried Oury's. Am I missing something? |
because Oury's are comfy and relatively cheap. the majority of bike shops ive been too have had them in stock in a variety of colors, which definitely appeals to most.cant beat em for 10 bucks
|
I agree... They are just what the shop had in stock when I wanted to try risers. Theres no magic that I can tell. No complaints either!
|
they have a PBR power of over 9000

As far as PBR power is concerned, I'll pass. I'm a Miller High Life guy. |

I just got them because everyone has them on risers. I know, I'm a sheep :innocent:

I like them cause their made in CO where we all try to buy local, I like them alot better than my BMX grips I used before which wore out quick and offered a less padded ride
|
They do seem like they'd offer a little bit more padding. Maybe I'll check 'em out when it's time to re-grip.
|
iirc, there was a point when ourys weren't selling all that well... other MTB grips were more hyped, got more magazine pages, etc. and Ourys were dirt cheap. even cheaper than today. They have a chunkier/softer rubber than a'me/big cheese/etc., but that's not necessarily a magic bullet.
I'm in the same boat as you scrod... I think I'll always have a bit of an allegiance to A'ME. most of my grips are A'ME (and a few Jive grips) as are my road hoods. |
The most annoying grips I've ever had:

i like oury's because they don't have the inner hand-wall-guard-whatever that a lot of BMX grips have. and cheap. and color options are nice. although i'm tempted to run chopped risers with track grips, i think that looks really clean (on some bikes)

I dig the inner flange because when I'm really digging in to crank up a hill or whatever, it always feels like my hands want to slip inward. If I ever do try Oury's, I'll most likely go for the ATV ones with the flange.
djeucalyptus - it's funny that you mention an 'allegience' to A'me's. I've often felt that way too, as I've been using them pretty exclusively since I was 13 years old! Glad to know someone feels the same way. |
yeah they are definitely worth a try. i run them on my mountain bike and i can say that they are very durable, and they are grippy even in wet weather, unlike my pedro's lock ons, and they are very comfy. just give them a shot and see if you like them.

My winter bike has got Oury's on them. I like them, they're solid

I've never met a rubber grip that remains grippy when wet. Just today, I had to keep lifting my palms off my grips a bit to dry the sweat from my hands because my trusty A'mes kept getting slippery! I may give Ourys a try at some point though. Thanks for the responses.

I have been through two pairs of Oury's, they're definitely comfy. Anyone using their Lock-on grips. My bike seems to hit the ground a lot these days, I'm going with lock-on's just not sure whose yet. I use race face on my MTB and I thought they were comfortable until I bought the Oury's for my Merc.

I like BMX grips better :/ Oury's just look so small to me and my big hands.
