Bolt on cog disc hubs
I've been reading up on these alot lately as I think its a good idea. A quick question...
With the XT hub conversions Velosolo do they swap the axle out for a longer M10 170mm standard threded axle. I might be wrong but I'm thinking this kind of axle is only used with cup & cone bearing hubs? I take it you also need to use a longer axle when using a cartridge bearing hub like the Surly? Something like this maybe.. http://harriscyclery.net/itemdetails.cfm?ID=2496 Does anyone have any know how regarding this and know what 6 bolt hubs are compatable for this conversion? |
Any hub is compatible as long as you can get a longer replacement axle for it to compensate for the rear dropout spacing difference.
If you don't mind squishing your dropouts a lot, you could get away with the original axle. |
Should have read up a bit more before posting. Apparently you can use a standard axle for cartridge bearing hubs.
http://www.fixedgeargallery.com/arti...mson/surlyhub/ Think I might give this a go. |
XT front hubs and cones are 9mm, not 10mm, so you'll need new cones as well as an axle.

I did the exact same thing following the same instructions. It worked out perfectly. The instructions mention dremmeling to get the cog to fit. I'm not sure what thats about. I didn't need to dremel anything for a 17t tomicog. With the surly hub and tomicog, I got a 45-46mm chainline, which is what I needed. With a tiny amount of dish you could get it a few mm inward.

maybe its possible you could get a front touring wheel that has a larger spacing then 100?
|
just get a ss disc hub and run if flip flop
