Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

fighting with pedestrians

From what I got of it.. seems to be a dispute because the bike messenger 'almost' ran into him while crossing the street. Then the biker 'u-locked' the pedestrian..

What an idiot. When will people realize that accidents (or near accidents) just happen sometimes?

Holy ****. It's hard to see how the physical fight actually started, but man, U-Lock to the head at least 4 times was really serious. Self defense? Possibly, but once the guy backed off the first time the messenger came at him again and clocked another one across the head before he went on his way.

You can hear the messenger say, "are you serious? get the **** out of here!"

That was nuts. Might have been just as easy to flick the guy off and just jump back on his bike before the fight actually happened.

Wow. Fighting is not worth it. Could have killed the guy with the right blow to the head with a krypto. Then you're in jail for a long time.

New York City bikers have been all a-buzz with this, wondering who it is and why he is such a goddamn *******. Flagrant, unnecessarily violent.

LOL that's hardcore. The guy who posted the video wrote in a comment that the cyclist told the ped to leave him alone plenty of times, so there's a bit of "you deserved it" in the air.

Did not deserve the blows to the head with a blunt object. If he'd just gotten back on his bike and kept riding, it probably would have been over. Unless the old guy was grabbing him/his bike and not letting him leave or something, then a physical confrontation would maybe be necessary. However, U-Lock vs. fists.... not very fair.

I have wondered at time what my mini U lock would be like as a weapon.
Now I know that I will not use it as one unless my life depends on it.
What really got me were the sounds of the lock hitting the guys head.

Nobody deserves that.

The ped kept coming at him even after the first hit with the u-lock. I don't think the cyclist was swinging that hard. If you really connect with a u-lock in your hand someone wouldn't get up. Not that any of this was good and from the looks of it, they both share in the blame.

old man yells at cyclist, perhaps grabs him or shoves him. and the cyclist beats him with a 4 lb piece of steel in response.

that's assault with a deadly weapon not self-defense.

totally unjustified.

looks like the asian guy was asking for it, but u-locking him 8 times is a bit severe. getting him in the head ONCE would have been sufficient.

You never know who you're f-ing with when you try to get all tough with someone. Might be a nut who will try to kill you. Could have been the case with either of these two idiots.
