Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

whats the difference????

Hey everyone I picked up a columbus 10speed for my first SS build thinking i found a gem. Well after some research I found out its a dept. store special and everyone says that its a crap bike that shouldnt be taken for a serious build. I always thought that it was the shifters, brakes and things like that that make dept. store bike ****ty and if thats the case then why would it make a ****ty bike if thats all gonna get changed anyways. Is the frame ****ty or just the wheels nobody says why they just say its a crap bike. the bike weights 25-27 on a bathroom scale before removing drivetrain parts.

The frame is probably made out of ****tly steel. But I don't know for sure, just a probable assumption. But you could just make a beater out of it for fun. If you're just going SS it should be pretty cheap. From what i understand you can just take off the 5 speed freewheel put on a ss freewheel shorten/buy a new chain take off the chainring you don't want and ride.
