My single-speed project finished

Here are the end results of my summer build for a commuter bike for campus, I'm a microbiology major with a focus on medicine @ the University of Kentucky, if any of you have been to this campus before you'd know it is monstrous @ 784 acres and i'm absolutely tired of walking or switching gears on my Raleigh Capri.

anyways enjoy I'm sure there will be plenty of things people hate, just remember this is built just to get around campus and downtown and i have a total of 70 dollars invested all together.

1980 Schwinn Speedster

For $70, that's pretty and clean-looking. I'll give you $60 for it

Nice budget build. Won't be afraid to lock that up and leave it. Smart move. I also live in Lextown.

Yeah, I'd get a rear brake if you're planning on keeping it SS. Also, get some clips!

Looks good and seems practical otherwise though, especially for $70.

**** the haters, this is a sweet conversion, and for just $70 bucks. I love the vintage-y look, sounds like it'll get the job done and get you around campus. Congrats dude, glad to hear conversions can be done on a pretty small budget.

Sweet ride.

I don't think this NEEDS a second brake or nice cranks- its just a townie.

Dislike the water bottle holder, but other than that it looks O.K.

For 70$ you can't go wrong.Be sure to lean way back when you're using your one brake.

thank you guys for all of the compliments glad to see its overall liked.

I'll have to agree with Raiden on the rear brake and crank, seems we share the same sentiment. As far as toe clips i'm planning on getting a nice set of Christophe toeclips/straps eventually.

something like this

and ya i figured out to roll my weight backwards a bit when braking after one hard braking incident led to all 300lb's of myself balancing out a nose wheelie

I dont get the reluctance to install a rear brake. aesthetics? I mean, if you're going for the tight geometry minimalist track bike thing, I dont think your fooling anyone. Put a rear brake on...or a coaster brake wheel + upright bars with cork grips and a brass bell, and then I'll give it a thumbs up. Let the cruiser be a cruiser - rock that shiit.

something like this

Make sure you know what thread you need for your new pedals. Many of those one-piece cranks use 1/2" x 20tpi threading, but those MKS pedals in your picture are probably 9/16" x 20tpi.

sweet bike, as far as clips go,i dont think its necessary on a SS, and dont waste your money on cristophe straps,or at least know they arent going to last you very long.
