No, their cleats are a 2-hole pattern like SPD and Crank Bros. Rather than carrying around two pairs of shoes (gets annoying fast), you can get shoes that look and function like mountain hiking shoes that have a 2-hole notch in the bottom, or cyclocross style shoes that look more like baseball cleats with the same bolt pattern.

Time ATAC on top. Bottom pic is there just because it's part of the same file as the top part and frankly I'm too lazy to upload a different jpg of just the Time pedals. And, as Raiden said, they're MTB pedals with standard, small 2-hole cleats. MTB shoes are totally walkable.

I wear adidas minerets I think the discontinued the model but they look like trail runners |
I started with atacs (on sale at now pricepoint for $49.98) and have settled on the eggbeaters. I think both are great but I give the nod to the eggbeaters based on ease of use and weight (but just by a few ounces), and I've got them installed on my fg, mt. and road bikes.
I tend to recycle things, so the atacs and their cleats sit in my bike drawer, patiently awaiting their day of redemptive resurrection on one bike or another. |
Another thing to consider is that Eggbeater cleats are soft brass compared to the steel SPD cleats. They don't stand up to walking as well, in my experience.

I have use Crank bros stuff for years. Mallets, candies on my mountain bikes. Eggbeater for my fixie if I want to be clip in. CB customer service is really good. While riding the trails in Laguna destroyed one of my mallets. Went to their old place on Canyon Acres. They completely rebult both pedals while I waited for free. From what I have heard they are still that way even though they were bought up by Frisc. Still same guys running it. Might be because I am a local. Never had a problem with their stuff. I am really hard on gear.

On mountain bike shoes, the cleats are recessed. |
