Fixed on Fixed hate
So I guess I just needed to vent or something, but it just seems kinda pointless for fixed gear riders to hate on each other. Like I catch grief because my bike right now is a Specialized Langster Boston edition. The main thing is some people will hate on it because it's a factory assembled bike and it came hooked up right out of the shop. Ok, I get it, my bike isn't some Frankenbike that I built from the ground up, or some company that's "underground" or whatever like Charge or Iro or whatever. But that doesn't mean I don't love riding my fixie. I didn't get into riding because I wanted to be a "cool kid" and skid my brains out and all of that, I just picked up a fixie one day after riding my buddy's bike because I loved the way it felt and reminded me a lot of skateboarding, like just the response you get from the bike and the feeling of it. We're all doing the same thing right? So why all the hate? I dunno, sorry for the rant, just had to get that out.

Lol, i always give cyclists a head nod, like whats up dude? and the only ones that never respond are fixed riders.
|
Cool story bro.
|
Langsters suck.

It's not because of your bike. It's because you're from NJ.

Oh well, I like riding and anyone that doesn't want to nod back can lick the underside of my left nut (thats the sweatier of the pair). And to the OP.....Maybe it's because you call your track bike a "fixie." I take insult to that when someone says "ooh.....you ride a fixie." I tell them "nope." and then they look all confused. |
Meh
Just enjoy your bike and rise above the hate. |
Gee, sounds like the vert scene in the 80's.
Nothing ever REALLY changes you know. |
Responses 3-7 are just so heartwarming. I love this place.

^^I always thought 'Fixed Gear' was a drive train reference as was 'Single Speed' ^^
Track bikes are fixed geared as are street-style "fixies" Pretty soon it'll be "Locals Only" assaults on the street, cuz 'you not from dis 'hood'. |

Same thing here. I'll pass people and I get the worst looks because I'm all tattooed and rockin Vans Authentics and clipless pedals. These are also the people that are decked out in spandex and when you pass them they get all mad and you hear them shift gears and try to catch up with you. Good times, good times.
|
Vans Authentics make me feel old.. Nothing like being able to wrap your foot around your pedal...sounds painful.
|
I usually use my Authentics, and yeah, I feel like an old man that should be kickin around on a boat dock somewhere, but I like the way they feel on the pedals. I'll switch it up to Nike Tiempo indoor soccer shoes though when I go on longer rides.

Well I got into this big debate with this bike snob at work one day about how the geometry on a fixed gear and track bike are different and you can't ride velodrome on a fixed gear because it's not a track bike and blah blah blah, so I just call it that now. Didn't mean to insult you or whatever, my bad.
oh yeah, and try platforms with clips, or clipless shoes. you f-ing hipster you. |
They were just Vans when I was skatin'.

Honestly I am pretty open to meeting new people especially cyclists. But when I'm riding if I see a cyclist on the other side of the street out of the corner of my eye I don't focus over to look a them, I just keeping looking forward. Maybe that's why no one waves back?

It's awesome how I start a thread about people hating on other riders, and this is one of the posts in it. If indeed I were a "hipster", I might take offense to it. But seeing as how you don't know me, you have no idea of how I am. Just further proving the point of the original post. Thanks for your example of ignorance.
Cali 1, NJ 0 YOU DON'T KNOW ME, MAN! |
I was riding over a little pedestrian bridge a few days ago and a dude on a geared bike riding the other direction yelled "SPINNNER!" at me as I went buy.
I think he was being cordial enough. I was doing like 90 rpm. |
What was the topic of this thread again?
