New Pedal Recommendations?
Was looking into getting some new pedals for my bike, currently I just have a cheap set of Wellgo on there, plastic body, plastic cage, with just one random section of metal on the back. I do have steel toe clips and leather straps though, so I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on some pedals to try out? We have a set of Bontrager Alloy Road pedals at my job, so that's easily accessible, but just curious if there were any pedals you guys/gals were psyched on that might be worth looking into. Thanks.
Oh, forgot to mention I want to keep using toe clips, but I'm open to clipless suggestions too. |

+100 on the GR-9. Been running them for quite a while, and I love them. I can ride with anything from basketball shoes to flipflops and always feel secure.

Another vote for the GR-9
You can service the bearings too which is a huge plus. They exist in black as well but they are a little more. |
coming from the gr9, it doesnt compare to spdsl.

Fugazi Dave should be here any minute...
(Hint: he'll tell you to get Time ATAC Aliums. I would too. They're great.) |
MKS sylvans are nice for platforms. I've never ridden clipless so can't recommend any of those.
|
I want to give clipless a try at some point.
How are they for winter riding? Last winter I used clips and straps and wore shoe covers, worked pretty well. |

are there any mtn shoes that can take SPDSL? I would love to try those, but I can't get down with road shoes for commuting.

I am using look keo's right now. Best pedal I have ever used. Do not know how they compare to other nice pedals though. |

I am 90% shoe does not really matter. You can run almost any shoe with almost any pedal.
Hell, MANY MTB shoes have issues with Crank Brothers MTB pedals. |

Guess there is that 10%. I have never had an issue and have been told to use a mountain bike shoe for comfort. I guess it makes sense now that I think about how the soles of many mountain bike shoes are. Sorry for the lame advice
That beyond lame. Flat out wrong. Now why would a Mountain shoe be more comfortable? Now more comfortable to walk? Yes, overall? You lost me there. The uppers of mid-to high levels shoes are the same, including the soles. Take a road shoes, add some lugs for traction/walking and you have MTB shoes? But your statement of overall more comfortable is too general. |
Thanks for all the input. I ordered a set of gr-9 pedals from my job yesterday. I got em for about 17 bucks our cost, not too bad. Should have them in a week. Lookin forward to trying them out.
