stuck seat post!
1 Attachment(s)
i just built my first singlespeed a few weeks back, and when i got the frame, the seatpost was already stuck.. i want to raise it a little bit, but i can't seem to get it out..
any ideas on how i can get it out?? |
use an allen wrench?
btw i have some constructive criticism on your bike if you'd like it. |
|
|
if you can hold it with something and knock it into the seat tube a little more you may free it up, worked with my friends old bike after giving it a good spray with wd-40.

drill a hole in the seat post, then put a 10 foot rod in there for leverage.

oh and penetrating oil.. lets not forget that. none of that wd-40 either. |
it sounds comedic, but I bet id' work.
Or weld some thing to it. Depending on if you want to salvage the post. etc. |
WD-40 won't work, there are penetrating oils made for just this thing. I've found the key is to get the penetrant inside the seatube- pull the BB or put it in through a water bottle boss, keep the frame inverted for a night, then take off the seat, lightly clamp the post in a vise and turn the frame..it will slide right out.
You know what works best to break the bond between the post and the seatube? Coca-cola! |

Failing that, a well equipped machine shop will have a slide hammer with an expanding chuck on the end (designed for pulling bearings out of engine casings) that will grip the inside of the seat post and allow you to hammer it out. |

Ask the C&V forum, they have way more experience with this.

true, but the OP seems to have vanished, so now we can bash on his bike.

That stuff rocks. Not just for un-sticking things. You have a rusty chain? Put it in a pie plate and spray the stuff on. Let it sit for a while. The rust will melt away. Don't get it on your clothes and it's smelly, think gasoline type smelly. |
