saddle advice

so I'm ordering parts to build on the frame that i bought a while back and I'm having trouble picking a proper saddle. I want something that will go well with the bike's style but i also need it to be comfortable. the bike will be all black with one or two silver components and red wheels. under $80 as I seem to be exceeding my budget.

ride seatless, be the coolest mother ****er from all around

jusleaspeed 08-09-09 01:07 PM

that's helpful, thank you.

dayvan cowboy 08-09-09 01:15 PM

don't pick out a saddle based on appearance. Its not like anyone can even see the saddle when you're actually riding.

robotkiller 08-09-09 01:29 PM

you are having trouble finding a black saddle under $80??

jusleaspeed 08-09-09 01:40 PM

no, just PICKING one. there are so many to chose from and since I cant actually sit on any before I purchase one, I was hoping someone could tell me how happy they were/are with certain saddles they've had experience with.

Bob_Ross 08-09-09 01:42 PM

you're welcome. i don't have a seat on my fixed gear and i'm sort of the coolest guy in all of the world.

bicycletothesun 08-09-09 01:46 PM

is there no bike shop in your area?

jusleaspeed 08-09-09 01:55 PM

there are two, both over-priced and the closest is very limited. the other is mostly mtn bike.

allez 08-09-09 02:12 PM

Not related to the saddle, but you realize your frame has vertical dropouts, right?

The problem, you will find, is that for every saddle, there is an ass that will fit it. Asking what works for others is not a good way. You have to experiment with different styles to find what works.

To answer your question, I personally like the race type saddles with minimal padding. They are light, flex where they need to flex and get out of the way when maneuvering around the bike. Some people swear by Brooks, but I can't abide the heavy, bulky things. YMMV.

You could still try out a couple saddles and then try to find a better deal online, or not?

I would never pay 80$ for a saddle I didn't at least have in my hand to see how it feels.

das_pyrate 08-09-09 03:00 PM

that is not a fixed gear specific frame. just fyi.

fizik arione has been quite nice for me. you could probably find a perfectly good used one for 80

na975 08-09-09 03:04 PM

Yes, I know what kind of frame it is.
I got this one. looks comfy and it was pretty cheap so If I don't like it I'll know better when I choose next time.

Yo! 08-10-09 07:36 AM

I use a 1985 Super Turbo in immaculate shape....got from ebay for $41.

Retem 08-10-09 09:54 AM

gman26 08-10-09 10:12 AM

Retem 08-10-09 10:32 AM

I wouldn't ride any of those the leather doesn't look very good

jpdesjar 08-10-09 10:33 AM

Brooks?

PlaidPlesiosaur 08-10-09 11:24 AM

Are you riding with jeans? Keep in mind that most high end saddles were designed to be ridden with shorts/bibs so you might want to keep your price range a little lower towards saddles that were designed for durability and casual riding. Maybe the Nashbar Arione knockoff?
