So the guy finally gets back to me. I owe him $111.60. I know I did the responsible thing, but right now I'm really wishing I had just ridden off fast. Especially since I just paid rent and until I get my next check in, I don't even *have* $111.60, let alone that amount for some bull**** cause. Blah.

Wait... what happened to begin with? (link?)

But yeah...nuts and stuff.

Don't know why I just thought of this now...but ebay has loads of replacement taillights up for auction or even buy it now. I had to buy a replacement taillight for my vehicle and got mine on ebay for much less than retail. Sorry, I should've thought of this earlier!

Fugazi Dave 07-08-04 09:12 PM

It's a good thought, but somewhat unfeasable, as the guy's girlfriend now has the car in Iowa City. No way for me to do the installation myself....even if he'd let me. :(

man, that does stink...

it may be time to move, change your name, and start up a new life. maybe even fake your own death?

but in all seriousness, good luck and I do feel bad for you. Lots of accidents on the forums lately... i hope we dont lose anyone this summer.

Grrr. That does suck, but I commend you for handling the situation responsibly.

on the other hand... on the way to work my mechaninc ex messer pal was hit by a gold colored audi running a stoplight. His bars utterly ruined the audi's painjob, and he got chased by the driver for a few blocks. He escaped with swollen arm, but said the damage on the car and seeing the driver's face was enough compensaiton :)

hey, i'm sure it sucks, but you're really scoring big points w/ the guy upstairs on this one. so, good for you!

Lets do it the other way. He runs into you because you stopped to fast. You send him the bill. Bet you hope to hell he pays. Your org post said 200 bucks but it ended up half, not bad. Pay up when you get the money.

Why did the Audi driver chase him down? The post says the Audi ran the light and hit your friend so I don't understand why he isn't getting the driver to pay for his doctor visit about his swollen arm and/or any issues with his bike.

When I was hit because a lady rolled a stopsign I was compensated by her insurance co. They covered my medical bills, bike replacement cost, and such.

If I got hit by a car, the first thing i'd do is call the police. NOT run away. Unless maybe it wasn't really the driver of the car at fault.

That's what happened when I got hit. She got out of her car and asked if she should call someone...I said "Yeah, the cops."

She got a ticket, I got a 2004 Lemond Zurich. Of course, I didn't get my new bike until months later well after the bleeding had stopped. All in all I was VERY lucky and would rather not go through it again.

You're lucky. When I was hit the damn lady drove off at first. I had the sense of mind to get her plate number before she got out of sight. She was lucky that she decided to return before the cops showed up. How I would have loved to see the expression on her face as the cops slapped the cuffs on her for Felony Hit and Run. But because she returned, all that happened was her insurance paid all my medical bills, the damages to my bike, and a pain and suffering award. Even so, getting hit and ending up with broken ribs wasn't worth it.

You're a bigger man than I am Dave, you did the right thing.
