Singlespeed & Fixed Gear "I still feel that variable gears are only for people over forty-five. Isn't it better to triumph by the strength of your muscles than by the artifice of a derailer? We are getting soft...As for me, give me a fixed gear!"-- Henri Desgrange (31 January 1865 - 16 August 1940)

Drooping Fenders???

Whenever I see a FG/SS bike with a rear fender - the type that clamps on to the seat post - that fender is always resting on the rear tire.

I have a this type of fender for my other bike. It's notched so that it can be set to hover off the tire. It would drive me nuts knowing that there was something rubbing on it.

Is the scraping fender just another FG/SS "thing" that evolved with the other trends?

Just curious.

I have one of those fenders too, but I keep it off the tire.
Perhaps they just didn't consider properly installing the thing. I wish I had put mine on this morning, I arrived at work with a soggy bottom.

It's not limited to fixed gears, people ride around with all kinds of sloppy setups on all types of bikes.

^True... But I see this mostly with FG/SS.
The Roadies seem to appreciate efficiency. The mountain folk prolly would hate the noise from the knobbies. Seem's that this is a look for the FG/SS crowd.

...but then again.. it might just be me.

I have one that is three or so years old and I had to put a little piece of rubber in the mechanism for more grip

Drooping fenders is a sign of old age.
