Putting 700c fork on a pursuit bike

New Poster Here...

I have a 56cm frame pursuit / tt bike. I am thinking about replacing the 650c front fork with a 700c (with 700c wheel). The only real reason for doing this is I like the look. Has anyone done this and what problems did you have - I imagine the main problem would be more foot hitting the front wheel? anything else (performance issues etc)

Cheers...

go for it

geo will be slacker than a cruiser.

sell it and buy a bike you really want

I sold my one of my other bikes to buy this one. I just want to make it better.

i wouldn't spend too much money on it, because you don't know if you'll like how it handles afterward. its geometry won't be slacker than a cruiser, but raising up the front end with a longer fork and a bigger front wheel is going to push those angles back.

do it on the cheap. if you like it, fine. if you don't like it, then, well, you didn't blow a few hundred on it.

Yeah your geometry would be really askew.
Go for it.

Then try out the 650 front end with a riser set-up.. or maybe a Nitto RB-021.. mmm...

it's not going to be better, it's going to be worse. the geometry is going to be screwy, as mentioned. it's not going to be un-usable in any way, but it's definitely not going to be "better" with a 700c fork.

Yeah the more I think about it the handlings going to turn to ****. Plus I'm broke now anyway. It rides pretty nice as is. 650c wheel will stay.

Thanks for the replies

have you seen Garret Chow's pursuit in the MashSF Austin video?
you can do it.

azukisingle 08-17-09 04:43 AM

I dont understand how people are telling you to get the bike you really want when You obviously already have it .

change the fork , maybe you will get an effect like the affinity lo pro frames a " relaxed geo" with the 700c up front .I ride one and love it .Hell , if ya havent already , go with 165mm crank to counter toe overlap ,if any exists .

I say go for it 100%.

well you see, that is different.
older pursuit frames were actually designed for a 650 front end.

your Affinity well.. it just has a short head tube.

Haha I got the idea from the MASH SF movie - one of the SF ones though. Don't know who the rider was.

If I get time tonight I'll post pics of the bike...still with a 650 fork
