The progression of a Dawes SST
http://www.bikesdirect.com/products/...t_blk_2100.jpg
Yes, I have ordered a Dawes, whatever that is. She is coming on Thursday. From there, I will be making many many changes. I think it'd be cool to track its progression through this thread. If you disagree...oh well I tried. This is gonna be my mess around/experimental bike. Self painting will be involved. |

I'll follow you
Keep it up man!
Curious to see what you do. Thanks, CD |
It still surprises me how similar that bike is to an SE Lager. Of course we all know it is the same frame, but that is the exact same entire bike. From the handlbars and brake levers and stem to the wheelset, crankset, and even the saddle! It's identical. Great deal on a good bike.

I have the same bike and had a blast changing things here and there. Heres what it looks like now.
I have flipped the stem and have gotten rid of the stupid sticker since taking this photo. http://i19.photobucket.com/albums/b1...7/DSCF1807.jpg |
nice! i just picked one up myself!

I had my Dawes for about 6 months now but, surprisingly just rode it a few times. I keep it stock for now but may try it as a fixed gear soon.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...g/Bike2003.jpgOk so here she is. I'm expecting my fixed cog/lock ring from UPS today. That will be installed by the end of the week.
Also changing this week: The rear brake is gonzo, and the front brake will become a cross lever on the right side. This will mean I'll have to re-wrap the bars too. I'm debating a new saddle... |
woah! slide that saddle forward a little!

Note: Reflectors on wheels are gone now. |

Here she is now w the new brake set up and the extremely raised saddle. Hopefully some paint is in the near future, and perhaps new wheels soon enough. |
Hey is that the same brake from the bar end?
|
Nah I had to buy a new lever for it.
|
Not trying to nay-say, but where's the "progression"?

OK here's some progression, EggbeaterC's, Tektro BMX lever, Stitched on leather bar grip, KMC K510HX chain, Milwaukee Bicycle Co 17t cog and lockring, Sigma 1600sl computer, Serfas tail light, Hutchison Equinox tires, Cut the cable guides for the rear brake off, my plan is to strip the frame and paint it a metallic British Racing Green and order a Cycle Underground 4mm Chainring when the weather stops me from riding http://i90.photobucket.com/albums/k2...90825_0121.jpg |
Boo-yeah!
|
Looking good there. I like the blue on the tires, brings a nice accent to the rest of the bike.
|
I was looking for tires that rode better than the stock tires, These were on Bonktown, reviews said they were good for mixed conditions and winter riding so I took a chance on $30 for the pair. I'm pleased with them the are smoother, harder, narrower and handle better than the stock tire, not to mention a half pound lighter
