Glove Recommendations

Couldn't quite find a thread about gloves with the search function (maybe I didn't dig deep enough) But I'm in the market for a pair of reasonably (reasonably) priced pair of all white, lightly padded fingerless cycling gloves.

Something like the Rapha Pro Team Mitts

They're waaaaay too expensive though. Can you guys recommend me a cheaper alternative?

White gloves will get last about 1 ride before getting dirty from hand sweat and the grime on your bar tape. I wouldn't bother. I have white cloth on the upper section of my gloves, it is now a permanent brown colour.

Just go to your local bike store and pick something up. They're just gloves FFS

or get full finger gloves and cut them off.

Numb fingers at mile 2 are not fun, especially when there are 45 more to go. I will be watching this thread.

They can help with numbness and also protect your hands if you fall.

Still tweaking my bars, but I have this problem all the time, not just with cycling. It's not way off, but I think I would like to change out my ergo drops for some compact drops and possibly a slightly shorter stem, but we'll see. It's mostly a symptom of how my hands are, so gloves it is!

comfort and falling.

I feel naked riding without them now.

And in the winter, keeping your hands warm :)

jpdesjar 08-21-09 10:14 AM

I only wear gloves when it gets cold.
I have never had numb hands from riding too far.

Who needs em

Fugazi Dave 08-21-09 10:18 AM

The best cycling gloves I've ever had are weightlifting gloves.

Cycling gloves have no ****ing balls.

I have knee pads made by Harbinger, they are beefy vert skating knee pads.

I have some full finger gloves, I only wear them in the winter.

MPLSdunk 08-21-09 11:57 AM

thanks for the replies guys. i was just wondering because my hands never hurt. i do have a couple scars from falling though. lol

LoRoK 08-21-09 12:06 PM

They aren't all white, but the Knog Love/Hate gloves are pretty well made and comfy. Of course, the white on them now is this sickly blueish/yellowish color from the sweat and dyes mixing together, but they gave me great tan-lines so I vote yes!

i've never had numb fingers while riding. i only wore gloves when i had risers/ourys because ourys get slippery when your hands sweat. i want to get some for when i ride road because of the same reason, and my hands get a little raw after doing a lot of climbing while gripping the brake hoods.

How is this dumb? people did this for years. A little extra stitching to keep the ends from fraying and you are good. So instead of just replying with "dumb" give a little insight. Troll.

I agree with Allez.
Why buy full finger gloves only to cut them?

Because half the time you can find good deals on chainlove or bonktown for full finger gloves. Even my LBS has cheaper full fingers than half fingers. Bottom line is half fingers aren't always cheaper. If you find a good pair of full finger gloves that are comfy for a cheap price why not?

pedalpedalpedal 08-21-09 05:23 PM

I may be a wuss, but I feel safer wearing gloves because I know if I wipe out, my beautiful hands won't be scratched up.
