Back in the spring I finished putting I-don't-know-how-many miles on a Columbia Dream Machine. It was a far better bike than I ever would have supposed. I knew that Columbia had a long history and, presumably, a good name. But this looked like a 1970s or 80s department store bike. Maybe that's just what it was, but it was a very strong specimen.
I was going to give it a paint job over the summer. But when I inspected it I found two irregular holes at the bottom of each chainstay, just about even with the front of the tire. I knew they had to be rust holes and that the only thing this fine bike needed now was a decent funeral. It was a shame. A good bike. |
