New yorkers read

Unfortunately, my bike was stolen last night between 7.30pm - 12.00pm. Locked it outside 13th street between 4th ave and Broadway. I know the chances are slim, but if anyone see this bike on the street, craigslist, anything, please PM me and let me know. I will reward you.

I know this belongs to the regional thread. I posted there as well but I thought most people don't check regionals that often. Forgive me for spamming. I'm severely heartbroken.

frame: torelli tipo uno
saddle: tipo uno leather saddle
wheels: torelli hub, alex da-22 rims, Vredestein Fortezza SE 700x23 tires

And also. Do anyone in New York know where I could rent a decent bike for 2 days? I am registered for the Ride to Montauk this saturday and now I am bike-less. Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks.

i'll keep an eye out. also look for any delivery guys on bikes that look oddly similar just all taped up with black electrical tape... saw that happen way too many times working at a bike shop here.

also, what kind of lock did you have on it? I'm curious because I was going to start riding my bike around there and just bought a kryptonite NY STD. hope that's good enough.

That sucks dude. I really hope you get your bike back. How was it locked and what was it locked to?

On a side note a girl that my girlfriend works with had a nice fixed that got stolen recently. She had it locked with two mini U's to a street sign post and when she came back it was stolen. Whoever stole in cut the sign post and lifted the bike off.

Sucks. Hope you find it in good shape.

I had a Kryptonite New York U-lock. I locked it to a scaffolding, which is stupid. I was in a hurry, was running late. All the bike racks and street posts was taken. They disassembled the scaffolding and took my bike, lock attached, coz the lock runs thru the wheel and the frame.

steveFromNY - thank you. I'm don't usually stop by union square that often. I think I'll avoid it from now on too.
bike_manhattan - sawed street post? that's messed up.

I filed a police report.
I did not know that we could get a serial etched if we register in the police precinct. Next bike I'll get it registered and etched for sure.

There are two surveillance cameras around where I locked it. Might be a little hard to see but hopefully they could get something from it.

did you lock it up to a Vertical post on the scaffold, or the horizontal? I made this realization right outside my office up on 49th street. The Vertical poles of the scaffold cannot be moved, but the horizontal ones can be easily unscrewed.

Renter's insurance?

Had my bike stolen about 2 months ago and just received a check... VERY nice even if 2 months after its stolen and going through all my crap to find receipts or even to document what was on it.

shows how new yorkers are.. seeing people un-screwing scaffoldings and street posts taking bikes in broad daylight and no one stops them.

I do not have renter's insurance. But doesn't that have to be stolen from your home to be covered?

renters insurance usually covers most personal property including bikes. check out different plans though.

i don't think so. i was half-assedly looking for some and most of the posts i read were, 'renters insurance covers bikes'. i also remember reading that the u.s. doesn't have any only-bike insurance firms. kinda stinks.

found an article about it.
Seems like Renter's Insurance or Homeowner's Insurance is the way to go.

https://www.phred.org/~josh/bike/bike_insure.html

Apparently unless it's a automotive then there's no insurance in the states, but Jennifer Lopez can insure her butt for 1 billion dollars.
