Wheel Noobie Question
Hi,
I am a newbie on road bikes. I just bought a new road bike (non-fixie), its a 90's bianchi alfana and currently has 700x23 wheels/tires. I've been looking on many pics of Fixed Gear Bikes and I like the looks of the 27" anodized wheels which most of you have. Now, my question is - is it possible to install these kind of wheels in my non-fg bike? If so, what kind of measurement I should be looking for and where is the best place to look for? Thanks. -edited- http://velospace.org/files/Pista-Concept-03-low.jpg |
Most of us have 700c rims as well, just different hubs. It looks like the Alfana has vertical dropouts, so you'd need a wheel with an Eno hubs for chain tensioning.
Also, that Schwinn is all sorts of wrong. |
I'm guessing you are referring to Velocity Deep V's (or Weinman Dp18's, the cheaper heavier version). They are the same measurement as your road bike (700c as mentioned above), but they are pretty heavy rims, most people use them here because they are probably a little stronger than the average wheel, but more importantly...because you can get them colored. If you like the thick rim look, there are other wheels out there that say something like "deep___" (neuvation sl24, velocity areohead etc). I have the neuvaitons on my road bike and they are amazing, not too expensive and super super light.
Don't get colored rims |
Thanks for the responses, I am not particularly referring to the wheels but I am open to ay similar wheels shown below.
What exactly 700 means? My tires says "700x23". Does it means I have a smaller wheel measured 23"? Where is the best and cheapest place to find these wheels? also, where can I buy colored tires like in the pic above? Thanks. |
