fork me.
i need a new fork. the carbon one on my bike has a little crack goin on and i want to go threadless anyway. ive looked around and its a little hard to find a straight blade, 1' threadless fork for less than like 300 bones. help me out? thanks.

Are you looking for carbon or (upgrade to) steel?
As far as carbon goes 1" threadless is rare but if you want something that'll last much longer Soma makes 1" Rush forks and Surly makes 1" Steamroller forks. |
carbon or aluminum is what im after. the main thing i want is for it to be a blade type fork without visible rake, if that makes sense? i'd like a fork such as this: http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/2968/img1095d.jpg

good luck, your best bet is ebay.

I believe Easton makes them.

About the best price for straight leg, carbon, 1" steerer I know of is this.
http://www.performancebike.com/bikes..._400002_400206 Don't know what rake you need, but I think you'll have to take whatever you can get if you want to keep the price down. Choices in 1" are getting fewer all the time. |
You beat me to the performance fork!! I was just linking it. I have this fork, It is a rebranded kinesis fork.

An especially good feature is that the 1" steerer tube is steel (carbon steerer tubes be damned!) |
Theres a bike on Philly C-List with the fork your looking for.

since we are forking, maybe someone can help me ...
you know how there is a really cheap pyramid 27" chrome replacement fork kicking around amazon (niagra cycles)? are there any really cheap 1" 700c chrome forks (threaded or threadless) out there? i've been googling lately and haven't had much luck. i know soma and spicer have some but $100+ is not as appealling as the price of the 27" version. |

That fork is threaded and likely cut too short for use in any larger of a bike.

The Performance spec says steel for the 1" and Al for 1 1/8".
A good choice, as I've found 1" Al threadless steerers to be too flexy and damnable. |

A good choice, as I've found 1" Al threadless steerers to be too flexy and damnable. Interesting: I have never heard/seen a carbon fork with steel steerer tube. An interesting combination. That aside, I would never invest in carbon components. Practically impossible to know their state (there is specialized equipment that can diagnose them, but the price is several tens of thousands bucks). Not that they're unsafe, but they sure are a puzzle. |
