Clips & straps or Clipless
How do you prefer to ride?
I have been riding with neither and really need to get me something to hold me to the pedals I've got some yellow Power Grips kicking around and was going to give them a go, have any of you used them, i don't want to fit them if they're useless thanks |
I use both, and switch them out as I feel appropriate.

i ride clips/straps. clipless isn't practical for me atm.
|
I ride clips and straps on my fixed gear, clipless on my geared bike.
If I'm going for a long enough ride that I'd rather have gears, it's a long enough ride that I'd rather be clipless. Works for me. |

Clipless with M324's. Clipless on 1 side and platform on the other. For me it's a PITA to get into clips/straps but I have big feet and ya gotta be in the straps or drag them on the ground. YMMV.
|
Clipless. i use mtb pedals on my fixed gear since its my commuter/around town bike and i often need to walk in them and road pedals on my geared bike that normally only sees long rides.
|
clipless all the way. Currently I only using SPD
|
Clips and straps. I like being secured to the bike, but not as much as clipless. Plus i can wear any shoes i like.

Clipless FTW. I don't really need any kind of superior performance while I'm just riding to and from classes around campus, so I just ride on top of them in street shoes. Then later when I'm doing my "serious" riding, I'll bust out the bike shoes along with the rest of the gear.

Clips and straps on almost everything, with bigass BMX pedals for the drunk bike.

Same here. I use slotted cleats with my toeclips, so foot retention is as good as with clipless.
|
You can pull every which way if you're running slotted cleats with tight straps.
Hope you've got a fast hand when it comes to loosening the straps at stoplights, though. I went over a few times in my junior uscf years. |
Clipless, I luvs my eggbeaters
|
Eggbeaters vs. road pedals?
|
Eggbeaters are SPD style using MTB shoes not road shoes, meaning you can walk fairly normally in them.

wait, so why the hell would you use slotted cleats on the road?
|
Dude's old-school.
|
i run clips so i can use regular shoes since i usually use my fix to go to class.
I went on a ride just for fun the other night and threw my clipless pedals on. clipless is superior in every way while on the bike. off, they're bearable (since i'm using mountain bike shoes and pedals) |
None of the above for me. Platform pedals on my fixed, really makes you learn how to spin.

Which reminds me, anyone like MKS Silvan Road pedal? ... Or rather what clip pedals do you like? P.S. I am on an ATACs now. Pretty nice. |
clips and doubles on fixed; clipless look style pedals on geared
|
The answer depends on the following:
1) Do you ride a SS or a FG? 2) How much do you get off the bike and walk? a) None at all - just do my ride non-stop b) A few short times like taking a pit stop and a break c) As much off the bike as on d) Most of the time like commute to school/work, walk around all day then ride back home 3) What is the terrain? a) Completely flat b) Some short moderate climbs like a freeway overpass c) Lots of long and/or steep climbs |
