Sugino VP cranks Bottom Bracket question
I was wondering what would be the proper bottom bracket for my Sugino VP 170mm cranks to achieve a decent chainline when running the chainring on the inside. Its squared tapered. Thanks in advance.

Need to know what frame it's going on.

unfortunately the frame was given to me painted, so im unsure of the brand nor does the previous owner remember.

I measured the rear spacing and it a standard 126mm spacing and 68mm shell width. The cranks I have are road doubles btw. Let me know if you need anymore measurements. Thanks.

I believe I saw a recommended width for my cranks (RD2L - 103mm) somewhere on the Sugino web site. I then bought a Sugino CBB-103 for $37 at JensonUSA.

103 would be for running chainring outside of spider on crank. Something more like 107 to 110 should work if you want to run the chainring on the inside. Not sure why you would want to do that that? Are you going to run a chain/bash guard on the outside?
|
its just how I have the chainring mounted right now, but since I'm going to get a new bottom bracket I might as well get a bb to run the ring on the outside to be more aesthetically pleasing.

whats a good cheap English threaded bottom bracket to get in 68 x 103?

BTW: even with the chainring on the inside, I did need a 103mm wide bb to get the chainline straight with my Sugrino RD2L cranks. On the other hand, with a 107 while the chainline was off, I did ride it that way for a while without dropping the chain so maybe that size is good enough. |
