I agree with some dudes in the other threads. That fighting's not cool.

And also the bike thief seemed a bit mentally handicap, special maybe. They basically beat up a mentally challenged person.

BUt still, don't steal bikes bro.

And how did you determine this?

He is not too "special" to know what an expensive bike is and how to use a cordless drill to take something that is not his.

and had the foresight to dress up like a bike commuter as an excuse why he was drilling the lock to "his" bike in broad daylight.

i keep watching this thinking what would have happened if he hit his head when swung at the beginning. he could have pretty easily smashed a temple on that construction sign, then the guy in that video would be going to jail for manslaughter or murder over a bike.

vigilante justice feels good, but with all the "what ifs" it just isnt worth it

and I don't think you can base that he's mentally handicapped just because he has a bright green helmet around his neck.

the only people that do end up stealing bikes are dirty city rats. Rattus norvegicus. And if you have stolen a bike then yes this means you.

I love the city I live in.

Mentally challenged or not, I would have beat his ass too for trying to steal my bike.

Eh, dude got it easy IMO, was never close to getting really hurt. Professional thieves are the lowest form of non-violent criminals, especially those that specialize in the tools of people's trades. The law doesn't really care and they get a slap on the wrist when caught.

The guy COULD be anything. He COULD be from Mars. But, what he IS is a bike thief. Not a casual thief of opportunity either. He prepared to go out for the day with a bicycling helmet and a cordless drill. He was NOT beat down. He was smacked around a bit as the guys were making a point. I'm not some huge fan of vigilante justice and I'm certainly not a fan of violence but, I find what happened in that video to barely meet the definition of either. He was no harmed. He was shaken for sure and if one of those kicks actually landed squarely (unlikely but possible) he'll sport a bruise for awhile. Well, too bad. He was caught in the act of stealing.

I'm also not one that usually agrees with the people who whine on and on about how unjustly cyclists are treated. But, it is a simple fact that if they held the guy, called the police and reported him it is very doubtful the thief would have even made it to the police station. It just doesn't work that way. Hell, the guy didn't even actually steal the bike yet. Right? He also was attempting to steal something that permitted a man to make a living. I actually don't think much of being a courier. I mean to do it while you are in college or whatever is fine but as we age we should do different things. My opinion. But, when you take away a man's ability to support himself and hold his head up as a working, tax paying citizen then I say you could not be more wrong. What the bike thief received was absolutely appropriate. He was no mauled, he was not abused. He was with great restraint (given full circumstances) reminded that his activities (that he clearly prepared for in advance - he was not a common voyeur who stumbled across a bike) were inappropriate. Stealing is a bad thing and you should expect to pay a price for doing bad things.

My guess is had those folks telling them to stop had learned he was a car thief they would have threw on 4 ways, got out of their cars and helped with this "vigilante justice"

Defending inanimate objects by hurting others cannot be justified.
Lets go ahead and evolve beyond being a slave to the impulses of our reptilian brain.

Peace is nothing but a pipe dream as long as people have property/ownership.
Until you take away the later, people will be fighting.
Get over it and htfu, because it will never happen.
